Participants are urged to register early at the YMCA. Registrations are now being accepted for these once-a-week classes. All swim instruction classes follow the YMCA national progressive program and are taught according to the swimmer's ability. Programs include a fifteen minute gym class and warmup followed by thirty minutes of swimming for 6 month through 1 year old girls and boys. One parent must participate with each child. A similar program is available to 1, 2 and 3 years olds. The same gym and swim program is available for 4, 5 and 6 year old girls and boys with a thirty minute addition of tumbling and balance and coordination skills using special equipment. Swimming instruction classes for 4, 5 and 6 year olds are offered for three swimming levels. Three to six year old Kiddy Kollege classes which include swim instruction and recreational swim, gym with tumbling and balance beam and arts and crafts is available. A complete progressive swim i n s t r u c t i o n p r o g r a m established by the National YMCA aquatic guide lines is offered for girls and boys who are at least seven years old through eighth grade. At this level classes are forty-five minutes long. Specific information in­ cluding class fees, membership plans and additional programs is available at the Lake Region YMCA which is on the west side of Route 31 a quarter mile south of Route 14 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays until 2 p.m. and on Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. Swim Classes at 5:00 P.M. The Lake Region YMCA offers youth swim lessons from 5 to 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday starting the week of April 9 and will conclude the week of June 10. Registrations are now being accepted for these once-a-week classes. A complete 10-week progressive swim instruction program, established by the national YMCA guide lines, is offered for girls and boys who are at least seven years old through the eighth grade. The 5 p.m. swim lessons conducted on Mondays are Polliwog, Tadpole, Minnow and Fish; on Wednesday are Polliwog, Tadpole, Minnow, Shark and Porpoise; on Thursday are Polliwog and Tadpole; and on Friday are Polliwog, Tadpole, Minnow and Fish. On Tuesday at 4:15 the YMCA is offering peer group swim instruction for second and third grades and at 5 p.m. peer group swim instruction for fourth and fifth grades. YMCA Programs for Adults The week which begins on April 8 signals the beginning of high school and adult spring programs at the Lake Region YMCA. Most of the programs meet once a week for ten weeks. Babysitting is available for all morning classes. Belly dancing classes for females are on Wednesday at 8 p.m. for beginners and 8 p.m. for intermediates. Disco classes meet on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. Golf for beginners or in­ termediates is available at Arnold Palmer Driving Range on Wednesday or Thursday evenings. A1 Hauth's Judo class is on Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m. for beginners and 7:40 p.m. for intermediates and advance. Karate is taught by Dwight Berger on Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at North Junior high school and by Ben Mical and Jeff Quoss on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nancy Bailey's Yoga class is on Tuesday for beginners from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. and for con­ tinuing from 8 to 9:15 p.m. The Lake Region YMCA has five types of physical fitness programs for high school students and adults. Aquanatics is exercise in the water for swimmers or non- swimmers. Classes are available in the mornings or evenings. Men's exercise class measures cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, agility and strength and is available mornings or evenings. Women's exercise class includes trimming, stretching, muscle tone and overall body development. Classes are mornings or evenings. Fitness Fantasia is a total fitness program of choreographed movements to music. Included in the format is a wide variety of floor exercise, aerobic dance and aerobic activities. "Aerobic" refers to the ability of the program to train and strengthen the heart and lungs. This class is available mornings and evenings. There, also, is a continuing class. Postnatal Exercise Program for Mother and Newborn is available Tuesday or Thursday mornings at 8:50 a.m. Weight training and use of the 15 station Universal Weight Lifting Machine is available from 5:45 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday, on Saturday until 2 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Swim instruction is available for beginners and for deep water swimmers. The National YMCA progressive aquatic program is followed. Classes are available in the mornings or evenings. Self Defense for women only is offered on Monday from 8:15 to 9:15 p.m' S.C.U.B.A. classes are available on Thursday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Senior Lifesaving classes meet on Saturday from 12:15 to 4 p.m. Tennis instruction is available on Thursday from 10 to ll a.m. and Wednesday from 8 to 9 p.m. For more information stop by the YMCA. 3 Day camps at "Y" The Lake Region YMCA is offering three age levels of Day Camp for youth for this sum­ mer. Kiddy Kollege Kamp is for 3 to 6 years old Day Camp is for second through fourth graders and Adventure Day Camp is for fourth through eighth graders. All camp periods are for two weeks (Monday-Friday) and begin on June 18, July 2, July 16, July 30 and August 13. Campers are encouraged to sign up for more than one period. Kiddy Kollege Kamp is centered in the YMCA building and includes daily swimming instruction, use of preschool gymnastics equipment, arts, crafts and outside activities on nice days. This program is designed for child socialization and physical activity. Day Camp and Adventure Day Camp includes swim in­ struction and recreational swims daily, tennis five times every period and two bus trips per period. Other activities include land sports, arts and crafts and cookouts. Camp counselors are all adults and most are area school teachers. Volunteer junior counselors are used to assist the counselors, also. Camper to counselor ratios are 10 to 1 for Kiddy Kollege Kamp and 15 to 1 for Day Camp. Sneak Preview Of Book Fair Getting a sneak preview of the large selection of books, games and craft materials for the Edgebrook Book fair are Billy Oeffling, Holly Oeffling, Jeff Lundy, Susie Schrader, Michelle Deubel, Heather Carroll and Rebecca Huffman. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. April 4. 5 and 6, and until 9 p.m. Thursday evening. Everyone is invited.
