Guest Night Set For Wonder Lake Legion Auxiliary April 18 will be Guest Night for the American Legion auxiliary as announced by president, Vickie Gleason. Guest Night is an annual event when dignitaries from the different auxiliaries are invited to Wonder Lake. This year the district president, Dorthea Schubbe and her secretary, Debbie Williams, will be traveling from Joliet to attend. The county president and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lewis, along with the county secretary and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Rucker, all from Marengo, will also be present. Other important guests will include: Ethel Burow and Agnes Wappler from Alden; Mr. and Mrs. Chesak from Huntley; and Mrs. Celia Buhr from Park Ridge. Mrs. Gleason said that many other guests will also be in attendance. The auxiliary would also like to remind everyone that break fast is served every Sunday at the American Legion from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. CONSERVATION AREAS The Wondef Lake Garden club held its March meeting at the lovely home of Mrs. Ruth Kinzie. Our guest speaker for the evening was Mr. William Howenstine, who held a captive audience with his slides of our local conservation areas. The pictures were taken by his son, Mr. Chuck Howenstine, and were breathtakingly beautiful! These areas are a "must" for everyone to view, especially in springtime when different varieties of blossoms appear weekly and can certainly be a saving to a now "gas con scious" family for a special outing. Mr. Howenstine is one of our favorite speakers, and Mrs. Kinzie extended gracious hospitality. Thursday, April 12, will be out next meeting. B. Alderson Publicity Chairwoman HOLY WEEK SERVICES In addition to the Wednesday Lenten service at 7:30 p.m., Nativity will be holding a Communion service on Maunday Thursday at 7:30 p.m. On Good Friday there will be the veiling of the Cross again at 7:30 p.m. Easter Sunday there are several things planned. They are Tracy Russell and Jenny Turner. The girls of Troop 416 will be going door to door in the next week and a half selling the famous Girl Scout cookies. You will be able to receive the cookies when the girls come around instead of just placing an order. The troop is looking forward to a trip to Great America from the profit of their sales. There will be a special meeting on April 12 at Nativity Lutheran church ha|l, begin ning at 3:30 p.m. for the Brownie Fly-ups to meet the Junior troop. These are the girls who will join the Junior troop next year. Diane Burrell has been welcomed back after having been very ill. Cheri Wright, the scout leader, raved about the great cooperation she has been having from parents. It was great to hear her tell how parents have volunteered with driving and have just been generally helpful. SENIOR CITIZENS TO HEAR SPEAKER The April 16 meeting of the Wonder Lake Senior Citizens will be preceded by blood pressure screening from 11- 12:30 p.m. at Nativity Lutheran church hall. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Bob Rankin of the McHenry Senior Citizen council will give a program on heart attacks. There are two trips being discussed. One is to the Shady Lane theater in Marengo and the other to Cubs park. It is important to let Mr. Bill Lamont, who is in charge of trips, know if you are interested in either of these activities. There have to be enough people signed up or they will be can celled. Give him a call or sign up at the meeting. All members were saddened by the death of Mr. A1 Jacob- son, former treasurer. His presence will be greatly missed. -- BANK COMING TO WONDER LAKE It definitely is a proven fact that Wonder Lake is no longer just a thriving summer vacation area for weary Chicago travelers. Over the years, our community has grown and prospered becoming over and over a self-contained little town. Old timers will tell how ex citing it was to have our own fire department. Then came a post office, so that we no longer had a Ringwood address. Now we have doctors, dentists, gas stations, grocery stores, a hardware store, a boat marina, beauty parlors, barber shops, bait shops, restaurants, and a drug store. Now we are taking another step forward. This coming July 1, the doors are scheduled to open to the State Bank of Wonder Lake. It will be located on Hancock drive in the location formerly held by Roberto's Pizza. I'm sure we will be hearing more details in the coming months. CORRECTION Last week it was stated that Mr. Frank Gill was the patrol officer for Lake and McHenry counties. It should have read parole officer. I certainly knew what I was saying, so I will blame it on my typewriter!! Sorry, Frank. CONSUMER GUIDELINES False Alarm Contrary to popular mythol ogy, Nero didn't actually fiddle while Rome burned. The fiddle hadn't yet been invented and Nero was actually in Antium at, his villa, 50 miles away. Did Yon Know? Did you know that the month of July is named after Julius Caesar. The month of August, on the other hand, was named after Augustus Caesar. Water Saving It's true that you use less water when you shower than when you bathe in a tub only if you make the shower quick During a long, steamy shower, with the faucet giving out eight gallons a minute, It doesn't take long to drain off more hot water than you would have used In a 30-gallon bathtub If you i*ont to cut utility bills, cut your time in the shower \ 1 Hi \ K \ P-l V N 1)1 A t I R No Charge To Our Savors...
