Braising is the most popular cooking method recommend ed for less tender cuts such as pot roasts, blade steaks and round steaks. To braise beef, brown on all sides in fat in heavy utensil and season, as desired. Add a small amount of liquid, cover tightly and cook at a low temperature un til the meat is tender. Braising offers many opportunities for new, exciting entrees, for a variety of seasonings and cook ing liquids can be used. Also vegetables can be cooked a long with the meat and gravy can be made from the liquid in the pan. A HKM'ING I'AWS ANIMAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION P.O. CHURCH ST. - J0HNSBURG McHENRY, ILL 385-3093 " LARGEST SERVICE DEPT. IN NORTHERN ILLINOIS" By Fstelle Atwell A charming Ukrainian fairy tale tells of the plight of an old dog when his master turned him out, and the plan that was hatched to restore the dog to his home and regular meals. It seems the peasant who owned this old dog felt he was no longer any good as a watchdog, and he wasn't going to go on feeding him. and drove him out. The dog wandered through field and forest, cold, hungry, and hurt because of his master's ingratitude. In his wandering he met a wolf who noticed his dejection and asked him why he was slouching along so sadly. The dog told him that because he was old and no longer good as a watchdog, his master refused to feed him and turned out out, and he appeared to be resigned to his sorrowful lot. But the wolf answered that his master would take him back because of a plan they would make to accomplish this. It happened to be harvest time and the peasant took his ONLY'8" RENTAL • NO installation charge • NEW fully automatic softeners • TWO year option to buy with • FULL rental fee deducted • ONE phone call can answer any questions 312-259-3393 No. 1 in the Fox Valley Area Copyright 1978 extend to all of our friends, a very happy Easter holiday and Passover. LOST AND FOUND Lost Dog: Pedigree male Dalmation, IM2 years, Pistakee Bay area, 344-3936. Our records of both lost and of us at Helping Paws is to found go back for many wife and small child with him when he went to cut the corn. The wife laid the child in a sheltered place and helped her husband bind the sheaves. The wolf crept up, according to plan, seized the child and ran off with it to the forest. The woman wept, the peasant shouted, but the wolf had disappeared with the child. Then the old dog arrived on the scene. He ran into the forest, took the child from the wolf, and carried it back to the peasant and his wife.Of course, the peasant was joyous, but he had a deep sense of guilt and shame because he had chased this faithful dog from his home. He opened the satchel he had with him and took some bread and bacon out of it to give the dog a good meal. That evening the family returned home taking the old dog with them. He told his wife to boil some noodles and lard them well with bacon. When they were prepared he sat down at the table, placed the dog beside him and served him a plate piled high with good food. And as fairy tales often end, the old dog did live happily ever after. Though a fairy tale, there is a humane society message therein. Our message, from all KENOSHA COUNTY SPEEDWAY Wilmot, Wis.
