A couple of months ago most of us didn't think we would ever see green grass again. The late Senator Everett Dirksen told this story whenever he could fit it into his speech: I think of that lady who went to the governor of Tennessee and said. "Governor, I 'd like to get my husband out of the penitentiary." "Why is he there?" "For stealing a ham." "Is he a good husband?" "No. sir He drinks: he beats me; he beats the children." "Well. Madam, why do you want him out of prison?" "We're out of ham again." And I'm out of time. The deadline crept up on me.
