Three Harrison Students To State History Competition Ringwood News Ruth Ann and brother Jack. A delicious brunch was enjoyed by all. Jerry, Ruth Ann and kids returned home on Monday 385-8037 653-9262 728-0343 On Saturday, April 21, 66 students from Harrison school in Wonder Lake won a total of 78 awards at the Illinois State Historical society northeast regional meeting held at Tinley Park in the Chicago suburbs. The students from Harrison entered projects in the divisions of dioramas and rearch papers. They were judged on their originality, creativity, historical accuracy and grammar. Each student had to write a 350 to 500 word report and work on an in dividually constructed diorama. The judges awarded the ratings in a closed-to-the- public session. The subjects of the research papers were varied. They had to be based on northeast Illinois history and cover such topics as Mayor Richard J. Daley, the Allan Pinkerton story and the Union Railroad museum. The subject of the 20 two x two foot dioramas the students con ducted were the phases of the campaign of George Rogers Clark's capture of the Illinois territory in the Revolutionary war. Each diorama included painted scenery and hand molded and carved; hand painted plaster figures of the Revolutionary period in Illinois. The Harrison students spent three months in the construction of their diorama projects. The Harrison students worked on their projects as part of their Social Studies class on Illinois and American history. The research and detail involved brought praise from students and teachers alike. The dioramas were viewed by the Harrison school student body Friday prior to their entrance in the regional contest at Tinley Park. Besides the Harrison students attending the contest at Tinley Park, they were accompanied by their teacher and sponsor, Fred Reed. Also helping to chaperone the group on the trip were Mrs. Albert Lorr, Mrs. Judy Roewe and Mr. Robert Morrissey. All three are parents of Harrison students. Hold Riding Clinic-Sale Always Right An executive is a man who can make a decision and stick to it--no matter how wrong he is. -Distributor, San Diego. The McHenry County 4-H Horse committee is holding a used tack and riding clothes sale Sunday, April 29, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in conjunction with an English riding clinic at Oak Ridge stable, 4101 Oak Ridge road in Crystal Lake. All of the items are being collected by 4-H clubs throughout the county, and a 5 percent con signment commission will go to the County 4-H Horse fund for other horse activities. The fund is administered by a committee made up of 4-H Leaders from the various 4-H clubs throughout the cpunty. If anyone has any horse equipment, tack or clothing to sell, they can contact Lynn Blumhorst (338-5696) or Karen McCloud (943-7146) to arrange for pickup ALMOST.
