"Of course, he's the big one if his arm is sound," Moss says. "He hasn't thrown hard yet (this was mid-March) and 1 won't rush him. We're going to score some runs, so if the pitching is right we could be right in the eastern division race. Moss is hopeful that newly- acquired Jerry Morales will give him a solid hitting third outfielderT along witfi Ron LeFlore and Steve Kemp. Ray finished fourth with a time of 11:30. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD DIVOT DOLLS Beginners & Professionals Invited Although the sun shone brightly Tuesday and pleasant best described the day, con tinued wet conditions prevailed at McHenry Country Club and were less than conducive to good golf scoring for the ladies. Being the good sports that they are, however, a large con tingency of the gals were out there .splashing mud and tossing divots. A mini contest within the foursome of Char Zwissler, Irene Kinneman, LaVerne Harpling and Dot Christiensen found Char winning the Broken Tee Award for shortest drive on No. 17. Appealing for heavenly help. Char's head went skyward at the propitious moment to earn her the coveted award. Attempting to fool Mother Nature, Dot Freund landed her fairway shot on No. 13 in a hole of one of the large oaks trees. One more recording of such a feat will be sufficient to establish the Squirrel Salute. Without their waterwings, Gladys Warfield and Dot Shadel were living dangerously as they balanced on either side of the bridge over the creek on No. 8 attempting to retrieve their drives from the nearly waist-high Hellespont. And all of Ginny Spengel s bad shots were attributed to new clubs. The same claim was made by Mil Leisten. the program. Vale Adams, pro, will be offering an 8-week series of lessons beginning June 28. According to Mil Leisten, captain, opening Team Play will find Foss Park of North Chicago coming to McHenry May 18. Well, if the good Lord is willing and the creek don't raise, next week should bring reports of better golfing. 'Til then, Happy Golfing! That is the question ij> iji McHenry High coaches and players are talking about ijjj ijj these days. Of all the bad springs we have had the past ijij iji several years, this has to top them all. The Warriors even ijij iji had to cancel a baseball game, and play at Crown. That is ijij ijij unheard of at McHenry. I can not recall when a Warrior ijij ijij baseball game had to be transferred to another site. Last ijij ijij Saturday the Warriors played at home, but had to use the ijij ijij sophomore diamond. It proved a good omen, as the ijij ij:j Warriors won a pair. jij: iv When I mentioned last week, of the weak hitting ;jji Warriors in their doubleheader against Jacobs, only four jjjj i£ hits, I must have struck a sore spot. Last week against the jjjj i-i: Woodstock Blue Streaks, the Warriors pounded out iji: twenty-three hits for the day. jiji jij In fact since the column was printed, the Warriors have jjjj managed forty-two hits in the four games; winning three jiji jij: of the four. Coach Ken Swanson is hoping that they jiji jij: continue their assault on enemy pitching jij: The McHenry Relays were cancelled last Friday night jiji due to the weather. The meet was held on Saturday at j i j: Crystal Lake Central, who must be given a vote of thanks for the use of their facilities. The all weather track proved jij: jij: to be a blessing to everyone except the Warriors. They did jij: jij: manage to cop a first place, when their sensational jij: jiji sophomore medley relay team of Ritthaler, Schaeffer, jij: Crittenden and Haines showed their heels to the rest of the £: jiii field All the schools showed up Saturday, with the jij: jS. exception of the pre-meet favorite Naperville North, who ijjj j:': were scheduled in another relay. That is the bad feature of ijjj ijj: cancelling a meet, contracts are signed years in advance, jjjj ijj: and schools must honor them, or be left out in the cold in ijj the future. ijij jiji This Saturday the Warriors are entered in the ijjj ijj Woodstock Relays. The Warriors have won all four ijjj jji previous meets, but are not considered to be a threat this ijjj ijj year. ijjj ijj Tomorrow the Warriors will host the first Fox Valley :j:j ijj Conference swimming meet at West Campus. Time is ijjj jji ,10:00 a.m. Admission is free, so if you want to see some ijij jji action, just journey out to the pool, you won't be :j:j disappointed. jjjj jiji An apology to Judy Honning, the long distance runner ijij jiji on Coach Don Seaton's McHenry High girl's track team. :j:j jiji Judy won the McHenry County 880 yd run last week, we ijij ;ii had her placing second. Judy defeated the defending jjjj iji champ Tina Tulga from Crystal Lake Central. Judy runs jjjj iji both the 880 and the mile for the Warriors, and does a fine jijj jij: job. jjjj iji: Applications are pouring in from prospective football jjjj coaches, seeking the head job at McHenry. Since Bill Day jjjj ijij resigned several weeks ago, school officials have been jjjj ijij receiving applications every day. From all reports the :j:j ijij school is not in any hurry to name a coach at the present :j:j iji: time. With the number of applicants, they should be able :j:j jij: to come up with a good one. Prospects should be bright for jjjj jij: the new coach who ever he may be. „ jiji jij Anyway it won't be long before we know who the new jjjj jij: coach will be for the coming season. jiji in doubles plays in 1978 and all four good hitters. His catch ing is strong with young, out standing Lance Parrish backed by Milt May and John Wock- enfuss. "I've said all along we'll be in the race this year, with this young club," Moss said. "And there's a good chance we'll be in with or without any one pitcher." Moss has in mind Kip Young, who made the club last year and posted a 2.81 e.r.a., plus this year's high hope, Sheldon Burnside, plus ,Dave Rozema, Jack Billing- ham, Milt Wilcox, Steve Baker and, hopefully Fidrych. There's also Jack Morris, Pat Underwood and Dan Petry, with a chance to come through. • Keep your hi-fi's turntable, amplifiers and speakers free of dust that can harm their deli cate mechanism. Give them a gentle once-over with your vac's dusting brush. Note: Unplug all electric appliances before vac uuming to eliminate chance of shock. Tim Fischbach of 4813 Crystal Lake road caught this 8 pound large mouth Bass during his Easter vacation visit with his great aunt and uncle, Hazel and Ted Alongi of Port Richey, Florida, who spent many years in Mcllenry before retiring to Florida. Tim's brother Chris holds the fish up for him. *
