Also from Wonder Lake, Clarence Krepps reported that someone had syphoned gas from both the gas tanks of his pick-up truck and had also stolen two baseball gloves. And, lightning does strike the same place twice, on May 11, Russell Johnson, 715 Wright road, McHenry, reported that $7.00 worth of gasoline was missing. COUNTY TO SHARE ROAD IMPROVEMENT (Continued from page 1) reported to the Planning and Zoning committee. The report listed the roads as constituting "a hazard to all those who reside in the sub­ division and all those who propose to reside in the sub­ division". The conclusion was that the roads were in no condition to be completed with the final seal coat. In a cooperative move with municipalities throughout the county in the general area of zoning, a resolution was passed authorizing the County board chairman to enter into agreements with these municipalities covering review and consultation. The purpose was "to protect the interests of all of the residents of the county with respect to the design, water supply, public grounds and sewage problems created by maps, plats and sub­ divisions". The McHenry County Liquor and License committee released the figure of $104,565 as total receipts. It reflects $98,600 from liquor licenses and $5,965 from amusement licenses to date. Two zoning petitions of in­ terest locally were approved. One concerned the request of Stephen and Ann Turk and the Palatine National bank, under a trust, for an amendment to the zoning ordinance affecting property consisting of 3 acres with frontage on West Ringwood road. Board ap­ proval will change the classification of the "F" Farming district to "E-2" Estate district. The second approval was for McHenry State bank, under a trust, to use about 5 acres with frontage on Rt. 31 for "B-l" Business district purposes. It had been zoned "F" Farm district. Intended use was indicated to be construction of a medical building in which to practice Ophthalmology. The location is in Nun da township, north of Crystal Lake. Recommended by Sheriff LaMagdeleine, Arnold Rauen of McHenry was named to fulfill the unexpired term of the late Ray McGee on the county Merit commission. The term runs to April of 1980. Among other appointments, Walter Dean of McHenry, former chairman of the County board, was appointed to the McHenry County Board of Review to serve until May 31, 1981. Witz, 706 Nancy lane, McHenry, was treated and released from McHenry hospital Wednesday night after the motorcycle he was riding hit an embankment near Wauconda. According to the State police, Witz was being chased by a Conservation department car, for an unknown reason, when he ran a stop sign at the in­ tersection of Darrell and Dowell roads. Witz was ticketed for disobeying a stop sign, unsafe tires, no valid registration and violation of vehicle classification. He was taken to McHenry hospital by the Wauconda Rescue squad. After nearly running a Sheriff 's department car off the road, Melvin Larsen, 38, Wonder Lake was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Bond was set at $1035.00. After stopping a car for no license plates, a Sheriff's deputy arrested Joyce Heinz, Brings Driver trespassing, driving with license suspended and no tail lights. Rachel faces charges of theft over $150, possession of stolen property and criminal trespassing. On May 9, Dortald Kearns reported to the Sheriff's department that someone had stolen a .44 caliber revolver, holster, belt and stereo from his home at 2016 S. Route 31, McHenry. On May 10, Charles Schlott- man, 54, 219 Rivjer road, McHenry, was arrested for theft under $150 when a Sheriff's deputy saw him at the side of the road with an I-beam in his truck. Schlottman's truck happened to be parked near a delivery of similar beams that belonged to the Guard Fence Co. which was doing work in the area. Bond was set at $1,000. Auto vandalism and other related offenses have shown no signs of slacking off. On May 12, Richard Hawkins, 2408 Country lane, McHenry, reported to the Sheriff's department that someone had broken the rear window and both of the left side windows on his car. The same day, James-Turuc, 208 W. Hilltop, McHenry, reported that all of the windows on his car had been broken. Also on May 12, William Boyle, 2704 Myang, McHenry, found yellow paint on his car and reported it to the police. Two days earlier, C.B. S.D. Hank Strumbach, 5203 Fountain lane, McHenry, was taken to McHenry hospital by the McHenry Rescue squad following a car-bike accident at about 7:45 a.m. Monday morning. Strumbach said he was riding his bike on the sidewalk of Elm street, near Bolger's Drug store, when a car turned into the lot and hit him. Cheryl D. Mowrer, Wonder Lake, said she was turning into the lot, saw the boy and applied her brakes but could not stop in time. Strumbach was treated and released and no tickets were issued. In a similar incident Tuesday, Robert Heiser, 1410 N. Riverside, McHenry, was taken to McHenry hospital by his mother after the bike he was riding collided with a car driven by Leisa R. Weingart, 3622 N. Chapel Hill road, McHenry. Ms. Weingart said she stopped at the intersection of Pearl and Riverside, saw no cars and proceeded, at which time a boy on, a bike hit the right front fender of her car. Heiser said he saw the car coming but it did not stop all the way at the stop sign and hit him. Heiser was treated and released. A rear-ender May 12 resulted in two tickets to John R. Far- wick, 2023 N. Clifton, McHenry. Farwick said he was driving south on Route 120 near In­ dustrial avenue when the car in front of him suddenly slowed. Before he could apply the brakes, he said, he hit a car driven by Robin S. Gioia, 5416 Brittany, McHenry. Ms. Gioia said she was stopped at the intersection when she was hit. She said she looked back and saw Farwick open the door, step out and fall down. Farwick was ticketed for transportation of open liquor in a car and for driving while intoxicated. Linda Messinger, 3919 Dolores, was ticketed for failure to stop or yield at an intersection after her car was broadsided by another at about 5 p.m. May 11. The driver of the other car, Michael Ritthaler, 729 Riverside drive, said that Ms. Messinger's car pulled out in front of him before he could stop. Ms. Messinger said she was stopped at the intersection of Main and Front streets, looked, and proceeded. A witness to the accident said she saw Ritthaler's car, traveling at a "high rate of speed," strike the side of Ms. Messinger's car. The witness said that Ritthaler did not even try to stop. Albert C. Pfeiffer did more than $250 damage to his car when he crashed a fence on River road at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday. Pfeiffer said he was nor­ thbound on River road when a southbound car approached in his lane. He said he veered off the shoulder to avoid the ac­ cident, but lost control of the car trying to bring it back on the road. Tripp, son of George and Marylin Tripp, 802 Ringwood road, McHenry. recently returned from a deployment in " the Mediterranean Sea. He is a crewmember abroad the guided missile cruser USS Biddle, homeported in Norfolk, Va. While deployed, his ship operated as a unit of the U.S. Sixth Fleet. During the deployment, his ship participated in several training exercises with other Sixth Fleet units and those of allied nations. Port visits were made in several Mediterranean cities. The Bidlde is 547 feet long, displaces 7,930 tons and carries a crew of 418 officers and enlisted men. She is outfitted with guns, missile launchers, torpedo tubes and an an­ tisubmarine rocket launcher. Tripp joined the Navy in November 1975. McHenry County college will hold graduation ceremonies Sunday, May 20, for students graduating in August and December of 1978 and in May of 1979 The 2 p.m. ceremonies in the college union on the lower level of the Main hall building will be followed by a reception for graduates and their guests. A total of 83 graduates will participate in the ceremonies, receiving associate degrees in arts, science, applied science or general education or cer­ tificates of completion. There were 175 students overall graduating during August and December of 1978 and May of 1979. Speakers for the graduation this year will be Melva DeCraene and Laura Hall, two members of the graduating class who live in Crystal Lake.
