Dehydration is the excessive loss of water from the body. This phenomena is easily recognized in hot en vironments, but it is not as widely acknowledged in cold weather areas. Yet, dehydration is a very real problem for the outdoorsman. If faced with problems of dehydration in an extended outdoor situation in high mountain, snow-covered terrain, with no available running or standing surface water, Would You... A. Eat snow and allow nor mal body processes to melt and utilize the moisture gained. B. Melt only snow since it is the most plentiful source. C. Melt ice because it provides more water for the volume with less heat and time than snow. D. Utilize any dark exposed surface that will absorb the sun's heat and melt snow. To Survive Whever possible, alternative (C) is the best solution for gaining a ready supply of water. Ice does iprovide more1 water for the volume with less heat and time than snow. However, if a choice is possible, always melt ice before snow. (D) is an acceptable form of melting snow provided the dark surfaces are available, the temperatures are com plimentary, and an urgent need for water does not exist. If fuel is available, melting of ice or snow is best. (A) is the least desirable alternative. Ingesting of snow or ice in the outdoors only tends to worsen an already dehydrated condition. Eating snow will only increase the thirst sensation and sap needed body heat in the melting process. Always melt your ice or snow over an external heat source before consuming. BUYERS' Market Have you ever seen so many properties on the market for sale? The McHenry County Multiple Listing Book is jam med full and there are several for sale by owners. This means the Buyer can be super selective. If your property is not priced right you will not even get a looker. It is important that you make certain that your fair market price is quoted to you by an expert in the field • by someone who takes time and patience to not only carefully measure, but to check records to make certain the legal is correct, the lot size is as stated, and someone who will give you a run down on what other properties are selling for in your area. It must be someone who will produce for you, in writing, a detailed "fair market analysis". Don't be a "Buyer's Market" Casualty!! Your home can sell, if fairly evaluated. Make certain the person you select to represent you, really knows what they are talking about - that they are truly an expert in the field. "We're the Neighborhood Professional, For you."
