Hard work is no stranger to Mrs. Albright, who got her first job in a state., men tal hospital in Illinois when she was 18. "I worked there for two years until I got married and we moved to St. Louis," Mrs. Albright told a writer from The National Council on the Aging. After she lost two chil dren, Mrs. Albright and her husband were at loose ends. They traveled around the country for a time before settling in Napa, California. "I went to work right away at the state hospital there as a psychiatric tech nician," she said. "I worked there for three years until I had a son. Then I quit so I could stay home and raise him." With her son well along in school, Mrs. Albright took a course in cosmetol ogy when she was 45. She knew a woman who owned a beauty shop and in short order Mrs. Albright was managing it. It wasn't too long after she started work ing that she decided to buy the shop. "I thought 1 worked hard when was the manager," she said, "but that was noth ing compared to how hard I worked after I was the owner." Money was tight and to stretch a dollar, Mrs. Al bright did things like trad ing her services as a beauti cian for advertising. Her ef forts paid off, though, be cause after six years she owned the building her beauty shop was in as well as an adjoining duplex. Not one to sit back and take it easy just because she'd reached her goal of owning her own business, Mrs. Albright operated her beauty salon until she was 75. "1 did hire another girl to manage it while I traveled a bit," Mrs. Albright con ceded. "I traveled around the country and even took a cruise." When she returned, Mrs. Albright still worked in the shop now and then, con tinuing until she finally closed it in 1973. "I told myself I was re tiring although I regret it a little because I'm very able and I can't find enough to do," Mrs. Albright said. Aside from maintaining her apartments, which she's been doing for 41 years, Mrs. Albright attends church every day and sings in the choir. She is an excellent seam stress and makes all of her own clothes. "I don't have to buy anything," she said proudly. "And I'm well- dressed, too." One of the highlights of her life came recently when Mrs. Albright was a con testant on a television game show. "I was the leader at one point, but I didn't win," she said. • • * ACCORDING TO THE Census Bureau, the number of persons age 60 and over increased in one year by over 640,000. RTE. 120 McHENRY MARKET PLACE 345-4454 ... a weekly inspirational message for today's life-sty lea... I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told ut. We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and the wonderful works he hath done. Psalms 78; 2-4 There was a time when children learned about God as properly as they learned the alph^Set. Some still do; others have parents who have forgotten, or who are "too busy" with the pace of life in this modern world. Times are fluid. Technological and social changes come so quickly many accept them as a natural matter of course. We must adjust to all change and progress. Where many fail is in the process of forgetting how easy it is to hold and to preserve the important things which never change. God's love, God's strength is eternal and unchanging. f tHHHWHfl t t t l f t l f f t t lHI tHHHtt £ Attention Farmers!!! Deere? MF? IH? Case? Nope. Toro'.
