Mr. Beller asks the court to restrain the city and that an injunction be issued to require the city of McHenry to remove the pipes constructed over and across his premises; also that the defendant be required to make full and direct answer and appear before the court on the fourth Monday in M ay- , -,ii School days are rapidly drawing to a close for the members of the senior class of McHenry Community high school and with the final exams for the seniors being given this week the real studies of the graduating class will end so far as high school is concerned. The graduating class this year consists of thirty-three members and is one of the largest classes to leave the local high school. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of June 1, 1939) At the Johnsburg Community club ' meeting, State Representative Thomas A. Bolger announced that F. Lyden Smith, director of the Department of Public Works and Buildings, had accepted an invitation to speak at the dedication of Johnsburg s new bridge. Among other glad tidings in the arrangement and preparations reports was word that Carter Jenkins, chief engineer in the Division of Waterways, should also be present to participate in the ceremonies. Letter Award hight was observed at the high school. All boys who had participated in the various ports during the school year were present to receive their awards which consisted of banners, numerals and letters for meritorious work in football, track, basketball and golf. Rev. Wm. O'Rouke served as toast- master. TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of May 27, 1954) Folks in McHenry this week recalled the famed duo of Mike and Ike, who looked alike~for their feminine counterparts, the Arvidson twins, are causing no end of confusion in the current Marine day queen contest. The young ladies are two of fourteen lovely can didates who are enrolled to date in the charm course being held in connection with the contest Most baffled of all are those conducting the contest and in particular the Chamber of Commerce for they are un decided whether or not to enter the identical twins as a single entry or as separate in dividuals. Pet owners are reminded that June 1 is the deadline for inoculation of dogs not confined at all times to an enclosed area or kept on a leash or muzzled when at liberty. These are provisions of a state law passed in 1953. f TEN YEARS AGO 'Taken from the files of May 23. 1969) Of special interest to students and parents is the establish- metn of a Community Youth center for the summer. The program will be held at West campus June 16 through July 31 for elementary and high school students. The purpose of the center is to provide a meeting place in a youthful atmosphere for the youth of McHenry. There will be adequate adult supervision and a wide variety of recreational activities will be offered. Mayor Donald Doherty was in good company when he issued a proclamation congratulating the League of Women Voters on its fiftieth anniversary. The Warrior mound staff threw a whitewash at Crystal Lake on the home diamond by the margin of 4-0. Don Rein boldt, who hurled the first four innings, picked the win and allowed the only Tiger hit. Tom Janik finished up the last three innings, striking out four and allowing one pass. r.. Word of Advice Woman's Club Speaker: And, ladies, don't turn away the wanderer seeking food at your door. It's only then that wives will know what a relief it is to see a man eat a meal without finding fault with the food." 3 » PARENTHO GUIDEBOO By Nancy M oore 1 hi: rmom-J (author Mothci 's \U- ,n . i iu Pub by Wm.
