Two McHenry residents were injured early Sunday evening in a motorcycle-car collision at the intersection of Route 120 and Wonder Lake road. Daniel and Virginia Kamp, 1612 North avenue, McHenry, were taken to McHenry hospital by the Wonder Lake Rescue squad after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a car driven by Michael W. Ortman, Wonder Lake. Ortman said he was west bound on Route 120 when the motorcycle entered the in tersection and either stopped or slowed. Ortman also said that he applied the brakes and veered left across the center Cost Goes Up, Up I lane, but could not avoid the collision. Daniel Kamp said he stopped at the stop sign, proceeded into the intersection and when he saw the car coming, ac celerated to avoid the accident. Daniel Kamp was treated and released and Virginia is listed in good condition. Daniel Kamp was ticketed for failure to yield or stop at an in tersection. Earlier that day, near the intersection of Wonder Lake road and Bay view, another motorcycle-car collision resulted in a ticket to Steven J. Kotyza, Wonder Lake. The driver of the car, Allen Broyles, Lombard, said that as he was driving on Wonder Lake road, a motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction crested a hill in his lane. Boyles said he applied his brakes but could not avoid the accident. Kotyza was ticketed for driving in the wrong lane. A car-bicycle collision left Joseph B Kotyza, Wonder Lake, with a ticket for driving without a valid driver's license. Bryan K. Darnick, Wonder Lake, said that as he was turnirtgTn^Nbicycle^left-en to Memory lane>he yras struck by a car. Kotyza said that he saw the bicyclist and skidded to a stop and the boy hit the car. A witness to the incident said that the car was completely stopped. On June 4, Wilbur J. Haak said he did not see the turn signal of the car turning off Route 120 onto Fleming road. Lisa A. Lutka, Wonder Lake, did $1000 damage to her car and minor damage to a berry tree when she could not stop on gravel at the intersection of Hilltop and Sumac. Eating No Longer Fun Pastime Rising food costs are taking all the fun out of eating. A recent supermarket survey by the McHenry Plaindealer shows that in the four short months since Jan. 1, prices in McHenry's three largest grocery stores have risen by almost 8 percent. Overall prices as of May 1 are up 3.9 percent from April 1. A random sampling of 50 commonly purchased items were divided into five categories: meats, breads, produce, milk products and miscellaneous. Current prices for 4 these products were recorded, averaged and compared with preceding months. The comparison showed that if you bought one of each item, one pound of items sold by the pound, you would pay $66.90 for that bag of groceries. Last month, the same bag of groceries would have cost you $64 35 and in January it would have run $62.03. Not paying any attention to President Carter's 7 percent inflation guideline was the meat department which showed an impressive 9 percent increase in prices overall. Farther back were the bread and miscellaneous categories at 4 and 2.5 percent, respec tively. Holding its own against rising prices was the milk category. The only category to show a decrease in prices was the produce department. In the meat freezer this month, pork loin rib chops jumped from an April 1 price of $1.72 a pound to $2.17-- a gain of 26 percent. Sirloin steak is up $.30 a pound for an increase of 13 percent. The old standby, ground beef, rose 19 percent, from $1.54 to $1.89. The bread category, which includes cereals, showed consistent small increases across the board. The miscellaneous category, a hodgepodge of everything from paper towels to dog food, had its ups and downs. In the up department, a two-pound can of coffee stood out with a $.55 increase, from $4.42 to $4.97 or 12 percent. Other notables were sugar, up $.07, and cigarettes, up about a nickel. On the slide in the miscellaneous category were canned peaches, down $.20 or 25 percent, and a 5 lb. box of detergent, down about a nickel. In the produce corner, Idaho bakers showed a 7 percent increase; however, this was offset by a $.13 drop in tomato prices. Both head lettuce and cabbage showed small decreases also.
