Auditions For "Curious Savage" Held At City HaU McHenry County Performing arts association will hold auditions for its community theatre production of "The Curious Savage" on Aug. 13 and 14. Auditions will be held at city hall, 1111 N. Green street, at 8 p.m. "The Curious Savage" is a delightful comedy by John Patrick with 6 female roles and 5 male roles, age ranging from 18 and up. If a person is not interested in an acting part, but would still like to be involved, there are many other areas in which to participate: lights, props, tickets, building set, costumes, makeup, etc. Good participation will make this community production a success. A script is available for reading at the McHenry public library, but cannot be taken out of the library. I divorced him a year ago but let him back in lateral keep kicking him out and letting him come back. I joined AA and now have 15 days of sobriety. He has pulled at least 4 drunks during that time. I can't help him. It is hard enough to help myself. Things are looking up for me~a good job and a lot of new friends. Should I keep trying to help him or turn him loose? A. Save yourself first. Fifteen days of sobriety is a good start. Keep it going. The best way to help him is for you to be dry and happy. That may very well make him want what you have found. Then I believe he will turn to AA And the happy, dry life style. What's Wrong With a Hug? Q. For 20 years I have watched my father-in-law brush off any physical show of affection from his two sons, outside of a handshake. There is no doubt that his sons are loved, and this love is returned. But he feels that a hug or any physical contact between men indicates homosexuality and that any such display is wrong in the eyes of the world and the eyes of God. How do you view the feelings of my father-in-law? A. Nothing is wrong with a he-man hug. I hug my son and my son- in-law that way. And once in a while some fellow who wants to show his liking for me gives me a big bear-hug. And for sure none of these guys are homosexuals. Your father-in-law is probably just one of those men who shy off- any show of affection, but that doesn't mean he doesn't love his sons. Why not just take him as he is? I had an uncle like that once...then one day, just before he died, he punched me in the chest, and we both had tears in our eyes. I American Legion Auxiliary News Who's to Blame? Q. Our daughter gave birth to a fine baby boy after she was married only 4 months. The marriage was a civil ceremony out of state. We asked that the baby's birth not be put in the paper as is the custom here. Most people are judgmental, and I was afraid of being hurt more by them. It has been hard for me not to blame myself. Do real-for-sure Christian parents ever have children go astray? How far should you go in confiding problems with nosy relatives and friends and a pastor who seems aloof from problems of young people? A. Do not castigate yourselves for your daughter's action. Be forgiving and loving to her and love her baby. Help the marriage in every way that you can. Treat the boy as considerately as possible. The secret of handling any situation is to bring the best out of it. Live your lives openly and don't be ashamed. Since you are good Christian people, others will respect and love you. About one hundred and fifty people were in attendance as James Chesler, Sr., was in­ stalled as Commander by John E. Cry an, Director of Illinois Rehabilitation and State Of­ ficer. Clair Carr, installing Chaplain is also a State Officer and by Sgt-.at-Arms, Roy Homo, a past Commander of the McHenry Post No. 491 and presently serving as 11th District Sgt.-at-Arms. Installing Officers for the McHenry Unit were Lauretta Homo, past president of the McHenry Unit, past president of McHenry County Council and Past 11th District president. Installing chaplain was Midge Scharf, past unit president and installing sgt.-at- arms was Betty Lou Smith, also a past president of the McHenry unit. Installed as president was Dottie Messer, Grace Latimar was installed as first vice-president, Marge Datz, as second vice-president, Ceil Violett as recording secretary, Pearl Cooper as corresponding secretary, Eleanore Reid as treasurer, Dorothy M. Miller as historian, Marge Hartung as sgt.-at- arms, and Laurel Latimer as asst. sgt.-at-arms. Paul H.
