HtfPV BBTHDAV HAPPY 14th Chris Dubas Love, Karl and Cindy 8/10 Gas Saving Mowing Policy RECK RAGE 15 - PLAINDE ALER - FRIDAY, AUGUST, 10,1979 An estimated 100,000 gallons of gasoline can be saved each year as the result of a new Illinois Department of Tran sportation roadside mowing pdlicy. The key element of the policy is the elimination of one of the three mowing cycles per formed in the past along the mostly two-lane state and U.S. designated, non-interstate highways throughout the state. The policy will not apply to the frequency of mowing in locations where motorists' visibility might be affected. These locations will be monitored and mowed as needed. „ In addition to the frequency change, all state and U.S. designated highways regar dless of width are being mowed only to the ditch line. However, mowing will be to the state property line when the road is in front of residences, businesses, parks and cemeteries. The primary aim of the department's new mowing policy is to contribute to the nationwide effort in saving fuel. However, the policy has other benefits such as preventing soil erosion, reducing; maintenance costs and protecting native flowers. Better cover will also be provided for nesting wildlife. Any areas on state property containing weed infestation will receive special attention such as treatment with chemicals or extra mowing. In addition to this new policy, the interstate highway mowing plan which was modified several years ago will continue. / This three-time mowing in/ eludes provisions for one mower swath - about 5 feet -- along the shoulder of rural interstates as well as greatly reduced mowing in large in terchange areas. , • PERSONALS WE rode and talked on the TIDAL WAVE early Wed. evening. BILL I'll love you forever and a day 143 JEANETTE What does it mean when a person's body test shows a high cholesterol level? The American Heart association feels it is a warning which may save a life. High serum (blood) cholesterol levels are indicators the body is having trouble handling both the cholesterol produced naturally and the added amount it receives daily from food. A certain am,ount of cholesterol is essential to life. But excess levels of cholesterol in the blood can contribute to atherosclerosis, a form of hardening of the arteries. In this disease, cholesterol and other fatty deposits gradually build up inside the walls of the arteries. Over the years, these substances continue to ac cumulate and the channels grow narrow, cutting down blood flow. When this happens, a blood clot may form in the narrowed artery and block the flow of blood to the part of the heart muscle supplied by the artery. Healthy tissue depends upon oxygen which is carried in the blood. When an artery becomes partially or completely blocked by a clot, or the narrowing process, the tissue is deprived of oxygen and quickly dies. If the heart is deprived,. it is called myocardial infarction (heart attack); if the blood supply to the brain is cut off, it is a stroke. . In most cases, a doctor will ^recommend simple dietary changes to lower the serum cholesterol level and outline other changes in a patient's lifestyle to further reduce risk 21 N. There Are ^ There are three kinds of people: those we make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who have no idea what happened. -Wall Street Journal. Some people believe that, to cool off in the summer, a hot shower's best. Not true. The body temperature is reduced safely, gradually and for the longest period of time if you take a shower which is not ice cold but somewhere between cold and tepidly luke-warm. >HELD OVER!
