Serve Problems Of Family Crisis Statistics gathered from various agencies and govern mental units in McHenry county suggest that there is an overwhelming need for some sort of refuge for family crisis situations. With this in mind, a McHenry county Crisis center lask force has been formed to established such a service for the courity. Groups presently involved in the task force include the First Congregational church of Crystal Lake, League of Women Voters of Crystal Lake, Delta Kappa Gamma of McHenry county, American Association of ' University Women of Woodstock, and the Parental Stress Line of McHenry county. The task force's intent is as follows: "The purpose of the McHenry County Crisis Center Task force is to provide a live- in center where victims of domestic violence can receive counseling and assistance in obtaining help in the areas of health and legal services. The domestic violence center will endeavor to meet the needs of battered wives, their children. and victims of other crisis situations. The proposed center will not attempt to deal with cases involving drug or alcohol addiction on the part of die client/' The group does not envision itself as a half-way house for either drug or alcohol rehabilitation. Neither will it function as a shelter for runaway youths. It is at tempting to meet the needs of the physically and-or emotionally abused partner among the following primary relationship: legally married couples, common law couples, divorced or separated couples and boy friend- girl friend relationships. All meetings are open to the public ahd interested in dividuals are invited to attend. The next meeting will be held Monday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Lakeside center in Crystal Lake. Lakeside center is located across from the main beach. For more information contact Mrs. Donald E. (Mary Jane) Westra, 133 Heather drive, Crystal Lake. RTASALESTAX "Dear Editor: "I wish people like Governor Thompson, Mayor Byrne and the RTA commission would stop taking my money for lousy RTA service. "My husband is an operating engineer. There is no way that he can use the RTA to go to work. He can work in several different areas in one day. Some of these places aren't even on the map, the RTA only travels the well 'populated communities out here in McHenry county. "The buses come through our town every hour - one bus going east to McHenry, one bus going west to Woodstock. The only people who benefit the service is those who commute to the city and some school kids who don't have transportation to and from school. "I agree these people should have transportation but they should pay for it. Nobody helps us, and I mean every con struction worker, every delivery service, be it concrete or food, and every housewife who has to pack home the groceries, when it comes to putting gas in the tank or fixing our means of transportation. "And now the governor and Mayor Byrne want to increase the sales tax and take some more of my money. The RTA is no better than any other business. If it can't support itself, it should just go out of business and stop bleeding the people who can't use the ser vice, because the service isn't provided in the first place. "We are being penalized, we are being' discriminated against because some people don't want to pay their fair share. "I am asking the governor to please use his power of office to stop the increase on sales tax to support the RTA. It is hard enough to make ends meet these days. I don't pay for ALEXANDER LUMBER CO.
