Since the paid holiday was based on a normal 8 hour day and this would bring my total hours for pay to 48, am I en titled to overtime pay? According to the Illinois Minimum Wage Law, overtime must be paid for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek. Sinceyou actually worked only 40 fyours you would not be en titled to overtime, even if the holiday pay was based on an eight hour day and you were paid for 48 hours. Further, the law does not require an em ployer to give employees the day off on holidays, neither time and one-half nor any other premium rate is required if you do work. 2. What is the difference between Unemployment In surance and Workmen's compensation? There is no relationship between Unemployment In-^ surance and Workmen's Compensation. Workmen's Compensation is a program which provides cash benefits and necessary medical care to most Illinois workers disabled or injured in the performance of their jobs. It covers accidental injuries and occupational diseases. In Illinois, the program is ad ministered by the Illinois In dustrial commission. Information ?" on ' both programs is available by writing to Workwise. Questions may be submitted to Workwise, 910 S. Michigan, Room 1823, Chicago, 60605. (312 ) 793-2817 WHO KNOWS! 1. Where is Mt.
