Paul, Althea and Lee Walkington spent the last weekend cam ping at Muscoda, Wis., and they couldn't have had a better weekend for this time of year. One of your reporters and friends took a drive up into Wisconsin last Sunday and found many places where bright colors are showing in the trees. Some of us see changes of color right at home in our own yard. Last Sunday was such a beautiful day, the hikers and cyclists were out in force in the Kettle Moraine state park in Wisconsin. Visitors in the Walt Low home this past week were Doris' niece, Kathy Graham and children of Denver. Color, and Kathy's mother. Doris, of Crystal Lake. Sign Electric Banking Bills Governor James Thompson today signed two consumer oriented banking bills authorizing the installation of Point of Sale (POS) terminals and Automatic Teller machines (ATM) in Illinois. The bills will take effect Jan. 1, 1900. "Bank customers will be able to perform basic banking functions throughout the area at any time as these machines will be operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week," ac cording to Gavin Weir, president of the Illinois Bankers association, which initiated the legislation and developed it with' the support of the Independent Community Bankers of Illinois (ICBI). One of the sponors of tfre bills, Sen. Vince Demuzio hailed the signing of the bills as "providing an opportunity for customers of medium and small sized banks to enjoy the benefits of electronic banking while providing additional services within the unit banking system which serves the people of this state so well." The automatic teller machines are unattended banking devices which can handle cash deposits and with drawals from a customer's checking account. The machines will also ac cept payment of existing in debtedness, handle account balance inquiries, handle transfers of funds between different accotmt of the same customer within the same bank, make check verifications and guarantees and will permit withdrawal of cash according to preauthorized line of credit with the bank. Thomp son announced Friday $1 million in grants are available to business, industrial, university, governmental organizations or inividuals in Illinois to search for viable alternative energy resources. The governor said, "Illinois is a leader in efforts to conserve existing reserves of nonrenewable fuels and to develop clean, economical alternative energy resources. These funds will help ac complish this goal." The Illinois Coal and Energy Development Bond act provides $5 million in state bonds to promote the development of alternative energy technologies. -The legislature has appropriated the first $1 million under the act for Fiscal Year 1980. The Illinois Institute of Natural Resources (INR) administers the act. All energy development projects recommended for funding by INR are subject to approval by the Illinois Energy Resources commission. To make the state funds available in a competitive manner, INR has published a notice which explains how eligible applicants can seek funds to support projects that demonstrate the technical and commercial feasibility of a l t e r n a t i v e e n e r g y technologies. As an organization independent of service providers, IDDAA assures that any develop- mentally disabled person can reach outside of the system of services to pursue ad ministrative and-or other remedies to insure the protection of his or her rights. These rights include a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive setting; accessible services: individual program plans; freedom from discrimination in housing and employment; legal, medical and vocational training ser vices. transportation; financial assistance: guardianship when necessary; and many others. DOG SHOW An entry of 2,645 dogs, representing 125 breeds, has been received for the ninth fall dog show sponsored by the International Kennel Club of Chicago. The show will be held Sat..
