Br SEC TION 2-PAGE ? -P! MNDEALER -FRIDAY. OCTOBER It. It7» Day For Marian Central The Marian Central Guidance department an nounces that Tuesday morning, Oct. 23, most students will concern themselves with the annual day of testing. All students in the freshman; sophomore and junior classes will participate. The juniors will take the Preliminary Scholastic Achievement Test-National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT-NMSQT). This is a multiple choice test measuring certain developed verbal and mathematical abilities tha have been shown to be relat to success in college work. It tests a student's ability to reason with facts and concepts, rather than to recall and recite them. By taking the test, a student will find out his rank among juniors across the U.S. in the verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities measured by the test. Test performance can be compared with that of a nationwide group of students planning to enter college. Also, through this test, a student is given the opportunity to enter the scholarship competitions administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The freshman and sopho more students will take the Science Research Associated Iowa Test of Educational Development. This consists of a battery of tests in the areas of English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Natural Sciences and the Use of Sources. It helps to determine a student's academic progress in com parison with a national norm of the students in the country who take the same test. As these, tests are taking place, the seniors will par ticipate in a college visit day. Though excused from classes, the seniors are encouraged to visit the campuses of colleges, universities, or trade and technical schools whore they might be interested in studying after high school. It is hoped such experiences will be helpful to these students in developing future plans. Miss Robertson is a talented pianist and has written several songs. She ministers at- the- church on a regular basis. The concert will be evangelistic in its approach and it is suggested that any Christian young people in the Mchenry area would do well to invite their friends and relatives, in whom they are interested, to hear her. Lori is in her junior year at McHenry West campus. She is talented in other areas also, having recently been in one of the plays presented at the school. She plays the flute, and has ministered with her family in music. ® Church people say Lori's faith in Jesus Christ is well manifested in her life. She has had a great burden for her fellow students at the school and would very much like to start a Bible study. Pastor Robertson extends his personal invitation to one and all to come and fellowship at Alliance. • • • * Adults who fail to take care of their children are the ones who complain later that the young peo ple have little respect for their elders.
