FRONT ST. £ | McHENRY, ILL. 385-3232 The Christmas season is the time for family fun and sharing. And, with so much warmth and good feeling in the air, don't confine family activities to just Christmas Day itself. Instead, get everyone--from . tots to grandparents--involved in preparing die house for a col orful holiday. Starting early in December, set aside a few hours each eve ning for the family to work to gether on decorations, wrapping presents or making gifts for friends and relatives. Here's a calendar of pre- Christmas events that involve the whole family: First week of December Time to address holiday greeting cards. (Remember, dis tant friends and relatives appreciate a short note.) Deck your home with Yule- tide spirit. Let the children gather pine cones, then spray paint them silver, gold or white. Tie the cones to the ends of red satin ribbons (use different lengths) and secure the ribbons together with a big bow. Tack to the front door for a welcome holiday lode. Pile extra pine cones in a pretty glass bowl on the hall table. Or, tie several pine boughs to gether, cover with artificial spray snow or spray glue and sprinkle on glitter--cover the knot with a big red bow. For safe and effective use of aerosol products, read the labels and follow directions. Second week of December All join in a tree trimming workshop. Make your orna- Fake furs, a "real" Christmas treat The next time you're asked what you really want for Christ mas, tell them a fabulous fur-- the one you've always dreamed of owning. Then surprise Santa with the good news and choose a great new fur look-alike coat of Tis- savel, the French manufacturers of fur-like fabric. "Santa" will love the price and you'll love the results. Luxurious simulated-fur coats or sporty jackets are a glamorous trend in winter outer wear. ' Wearable, warm and long- lasting, the Tissavel fabrics come in every imaginable wild- animal "fur" and cost only a fraction of the real thing. The quality of Tissavel's French craftsmanship offers a real "call of the wild" look and feel. The elegant, imported fur like fabric is made into beautiful coats for every occasion. Under the tree it's just another ' gift, but out of the package you and your fabulous fake step in style, fooling even the experts wherever you go: Marvelous "minks" wrap you up on windy winter days, while a luxurious "lynx" keeps you coty on shivering moonlit nights. Santa has a bundle of other simulated furs to trap in your closet too. Impeccably styled in the latest fashion trends', you can smother yourself this winter in wild wolf, fabulous fox or a racy raccoon. The durable Tissavel look- alikes appeal to women of all ages. College students will love heading back to campus after holiday break in a hooded pre tend wolf, while their mothers wine and dine in full-length look-like-mink wraps. Women on-the-go appreciate short jackets and new three- quarter-length coats with stand- up shawl collars for extra warmth. Whatever you"like, wherever you live, this Christmas and the new year will be brighter than ever, and elegantly wanner, in a Tissavel fur imposier. ments together--it's less expen sive and you'll treasure those memories for years to come. String cranberries and pop corn into red and white chains for the tree. Accent the chains with-tiny bows of green or silver ribbon. Construction paper is an ideal inexpensive medium for tree decorations. Cut out angels, reindeer, candy canes or stars-- then coat them with a light spray adhesive and sprinkle with multicolored glitter or snowy cotton balls. Punch a hole in the top of each, then add bright col ored yarn for a hanger. And even the youngest mem bers of the family will love mak ing paper chains. Third week of December This is the week to "do" the windows in holiday style. Let the kids spray the panes with snow through a paper stencil snowflake. Then, hang the snowflakes cut out of paper. Wrap those special gifts in different, creative ways. For a personalized touch, spray paint E8DAY, NOVEMBER20, ltTf (through a stencil) a name right on the wrapping--it's better and brighter than a name tag. Or, spray paint die box itself and wrap with a big ribbon, streamer or garland. ~ Up goes the tree and every body can join in the trimming. Use a waterproofer or fabric guard to coat the tree skirt and protect rugs or floors. And, if yours is an artificial tree, an aerosol room freshener in a pine scent will bring the smell of Christmas that every one loves. It's always nice to finish each family project with a festive snack--cookies, brownies and, of course, hot chocolate with a delicious squirt of whipped cream.
