Holiday Open House This year's open house, "A Family Holiday", will be held Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1 and 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Ellwood House, 509 North First street, DeKalb, 111. There is an admission fee for the mansion tour, and children under twelve are admitted free when ac companied by an adult. Every room in the house will be decorated in the old- fashioned tradition. Santa Claus will be there. The Children's room will feature Christmas readings and handicrafts and candies will be available for holiday giving. A special attraction will be the traditional one- room school decorated by Lincoln school fifth graders. Church Women Hold Bazaar Faith Presbyterian church will hold a bazaar Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the church is located on the corner of Chapel Hill and Lincoln roads, across from the outdoor theatre. There will be a large variety of gifts, Christmas decorations, ornaments and patchwork. Alno, sand wiches and beverages will be available. The bazaar is sponsored by the church's women's organization, and profits will benefit camp Stronghold, a Christian camp for children and adults located near Rockford, 111. A potluck supper preceded the combined adult and juvenile meeting. Junior secretary, Sue Dehn, read the history of the junior ™ourt which was started Oct. 31, 1948, under the direction of the Chief Ranger, Alvina Miller. Mrs. Olivia Hiller and Mrs. Dorothy Hettermann were the first junior directors. The past junior directors, shown in the above photo attended the meeting. Forever grateful, Mary ft Marcia Original Art Featured The McHenry Walk-in site of the McHenry County Senior Citizen's Council will sponsor a Christmas bazaar Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the McHenry Moose lodge. The bazaar is open to the public and will include baked goods, craft items, originial art work, plants and Christmas ornaments. Proceeds will assist the financial needs of the site and enable it to remain open for McHenry seniors. The McHenry Walk-in center is used by seniors in the McHenry area for socialization, recreation and participation in the Meet and Eat nutrition program. The county council noted this week that funding for the center is experiencing deficiencies because the city of McHenry and McHenry township were unable to support the center finan cially for the current year to the extent they had in the past. Tentative Programs Scheduled For 1980 Tentative 1980 program scheduling was discussed at some length when the U.M.W; Mission Team Executive committee met in November. A discussion of other business resulted in the unanimous agreement to have the equipment in the pullman kitchen of the church parlor checked and. if possible, put in working order. Also, a new outlet for the coffee makers will be installed. . .. The year books, were slated to be ready at the beginning of the year. The next U.M.W. Mission Team meeting will be Monday, Dec. 3, at 9 a.m. in the church parlor. Arts And Crafts Show And Sell Day The Alden Community club have set Dec. 1 for their, thirteenth annual Arts and Crafts Show and Sell day, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is held at the club located mile north of Route 173 on Alden road. Call Mrs. Lyle Wilson to make arrangements. RECIPE By Sarah Anne Sheridan If you've ever visited grandma and she gave you a bowl of warm bread pudding, this recipe will bring back pleasant memories. Chocolate Bread Padding 3]/« c milk 3 squares unsweetened chocolate a '/i t salt 2 eggs . 2 eggs, separated granulated sugar 1 T vanilla extract '/« t almond extract 5 dry bread slices cut into '/« inch cubes Preheat oven to 400 de grees. In saucepan, heat milk with chocolate and salt, over low heat, until chocolate is melted; beat with hand beat er until blended. In large bowl, slightly beat whole eggs and egg yolks; stir in V* cup sugar. Gradually stir in melted chocolate; add extracts and bread cubes; let stand about 10 minutes. Turn chocolate mixture into I'/i-quart casserole; set in pan filled with hot water to come halfway up side of casserole. Bake 1 hour or until table knife inserted in center comes out clean. Beat egg whites until foamy. Add % cup sugar, gradually, while beating, un til sugar is well blended. Continue beating until meringue stands in stiff peaks. Lightly pile meringue in mounds round edge of pud ding. Return pudding to oven for 5 to 10 minutes or until golden.
