i 'vi Wonder Lake 653-9549 Association Seeks New Membe High Bowler Chip Cynowa of Oakwood Shores, recently won the "Nine Pin No Tap" bowling tournament at a local bowl ing alley. The tournament ran for the whole month of November and he finished with the high aeries of 855. He entered earlier in the month and had a 801 series. In this type of tournament, a nine pin count is con sidered a strike. Chip enjoys bowling and carries a 165 average. ARTIST IN THE MAKINQ Earlier in the month of November, a1 local real estate firm sponsored a contest for children ages six to eleven, in which they were asked to draw their home as they thought it might appear on the moon. One of the runners-up in the contest was Patrick Sowers, son of Chuck and Anne Sowers (that's my boy!) All of the winners were invited to the real estate office Thursday, Nov. 29, to have their group picture taken with the Mayor of McHenry, Mr. Joseph Stanek. We were told that about 200 children entered the content so we are very proud of Pat. MEMBERS WRAP PRESENTS Members of the American Legion auxiliary will meet Dec. 12, at 8 p.m. with a happy task at hand. They will be wrapping presents to give to the members' children. Lorraine Fejedelem, president, says it is a more meaningful experience if all members participate instead of only the committee. They will also be having a Christmas gift exchange between members that evening. The Legion members are in the process of collecting canned and packaged goods for Christmas baskets for needy families in our area. This is a community project, so they would appreciate the tekroti individuals alike to con tribute to this project. You can drop off any goods at the Legion home any day from now until the Saturday before Christmas, Dec. 22, when the baskets will be distributed. ' In the past, between twenty and twenty-five baskets each year have been given to needy families to make Christmas a little brighter. Depending on how much food is collected, the American Legion is hoping to be able to distribute the same amount of baskets this Christmas. SPECIAL DAYS Jenny Spencer, daughter of Len and Cheri Spencer will be blowing out five candles on her birthday cake, Dec. 6. Even though Jenny missed being able to enter kindergarten by six days, she is a busy young lady attending pre-school and ballet lessons. Miss Howard will just have to wait until next year for Jenny's happy little face in her kindergarten class at Greenwood school! Dec. 6, is also the birthday of the important man in my sister's life, my brother-in- law, Jim Stilling. He's im- . portant to us too! You often hear the ex pression "strong, silent type". That is the exact description of a fellow who is celebrating his eighty-third birthday Dec. 9, Byron Sowers; his sense of humor seems to get keener as the years pass by. Happy bir thday, dad Sowers. Matthew Dudziak, son of Ed and Loretta Dudziak of White Oaks Bay, will be celebrating his eighth bir thday Dec. 10. Matt is a second grade student at Greenwood school. GARDENCLUB The November meeting of the Wonder Lake Garden club, at Doris Lockerbie's lovely country home, was indeed a happy one! The annual fund raising bazaar and "coffee and" was a huge success, due to the combined efforts of Ways and Means chairwoman, Mrs. Bobbie Fiali, co-hostesses, Mrs. Helen Gilliland and Mrs. Louise Nawn, whose home and hospitality was enjoyed, and the marvelous cooperation of all Garden club members The program for the evening, given by Mrs. Ruth Kinzie, and written by Mrs. Vi Kopp, Was an excellent in depth report on drying materials (flowers, weeds, etc.); both the methods and materials used. There were so many pertinent facts, it was decided to have copies mimeographed for all to study. Thursday, Dec. 13, is the date set for the Christmas luncheon and gift exchange at noon at the McHenry Country club. All members and their guests are cor dially invited to attend. In the meantime, pray for peace. Mrs. B. Mrs. O'Brien, chairman of the hospital's public relations committee, made her comments as she an nounced the 1980 mem bership renewal and member drive for hospital for McHenry < association. The provides the basis which the board mc are chosen, the body the governing under direction of the association membership. Board members elect officers each year following the annual meeting an the fourth Tuesday of each January. The i960 annual meeting will be on Tuesday night, Jan. 22. The board's decision, after long study, to concentrate mi improved services provides a special opportunity for citizens to become involved in long-range direction, decision-making and planning through association membership, Mrs. O'Brien observed. . . . * - - - "New members are welcome, and we encourage people who move to McHenry comity to join the. association. It is the best way to know more about the hospital, and to offer per sonal service as a volunteer, as a board member and as an interested citizen," she said. For further information on the role of the association and the way people may serve more extensively than by obtaining a membership, people may call Lee Pesce, executive director of Memorial hospital. Mrs. O'Brien observed that many husbands and wives both belong to the association because "the work of the hospital is a concern of al l family members," she explained. Renewal notices are being sent present members. All members-old and new-will receive a formal notice concemingreservations for the annual meeting. People who renew or join before Dec. 13 are eligible to vote at the annual meeting on Jan. 22. Now through Dec. 17, zoo visitors are invited to bring any new or good used toys (no used stuffed animals, please) to donate to the program.
