If you didn't, and you. start work without a permit, you could be subject to a line from the village. For a building permit, (if you're in doubt about whether you need one or not, check first) call Jim Box, the building commissioner; and if you need a septic or well permit, call Tom Farrell, health and welfare. CHRISTMAS PARTY The annual Christmas party for the children of the village, sponsored by the Beach Gals, was held Saturday, Dec. 8, at the beach house. The big event was extra special because of the appearance of a real live professional magician. It turned out to be a delightful experience for everyone, as the gentleman and his show were very entertaining and mystifying. He didn't really chop that lady into three pieces, did he? Or did he? After the show, amidst a lot of really loud singing, Santa appeared and talked to each child about his or her special Christmas wishes. Santa's helper assisted handing out goodies to each child, whether he saw Santa or not. Lovely Christmas cookies and treats made by the Beach Gals were served with red and green juice to the eager children, and the little ones were finally shipped home with visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads. Happy belated bir thday to Johnny Lawson, who was nine years old Dec. 15. TIS THE SEASON With just a few days left before Christmas, that biggest of the big days of the year, let us stop for a moment and reflect on how much we all have to be thankful for; the many friends that are so important to life, and especially our children, the most important gift He gave us. Have a blessed and happy holiday. Drive carefully if you have to travel, and stay home if you don't - America needs the energy! Merry Christmas! It as serts that public revenues should be obtained by taxing land only -- . irrespective of the improvements upon it. Accord ing to George, this should be the only tax levied. Corn may no longer be withdrawn from the farmer- owned grain reserve without penalty since the national average market price is $2.31 per bushel, 19 cents below the $2.50 reserve release level, according to John Gibbs, acting executive vice-president of < the Commodity Credit cor poration (CCC). Reserve barley remains in call status and release will continue through Dec. 31, for wheat, oats and rice. On Dec. 31, the national average market prices of these commodities will again be reviewed to determine their reserve status. Gibbs said the reserve status decisions were made following a review by CCC"bf theXJ.S. Department of Agriculture's agricultural prices report. Data used by CCC in determining the release and call levels include five-day average prices as reported by the department's Agricultural Marketing service which show prices bid by buyers at selected markets, as well as the month-end report of prices received by farmers issued today by the department's Economics, Statistics and Cooperative service. This end-of month report show the previous month's average price and the current mid-month price. James B.
