The rule allows 150 days for passage of legislation amending the Illinois In surance code. If a bill is not passed by the General Assembly, O'Connor said he would convert the emergency measure into a permanent administrative rule. "This is a major step forward for our state," said James S. Jeffers, director of the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation services. "Insurers assumed that life expectancy was shorter and that the presence of a disability absolutely predicted more frequent and more expensive hospital and general health costs. That simply is not true," Jeffers said. x . • vr r " «-» . V" . v - . r • ] ft 7 ± 4 > j •:r * I f m. « 'UKT MMHYSWEJOODS J ^mTu?"«OAO. SUHHVSW. MM0" 421 yUST NORTH OF JOHNSBURG) WE ACCEPT MFC. Johntborg Rood C hopel Hi l l Road Rt 120 FROM THE SAUSAGE LAND O LAKES AMERICAll CHEESE! A special feature of the fourth annual Spring Arts festival presented by American Society of Artists, a national membership organization, at Crystal Point Mall, Rt. 14 and Main street, Crystal Lake, Thursday and Friday, April 10 and 11, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and 13, will be the demonstration and dicusssion of stained glass on Thursday and Friday only by Ken Vilimek. Vilimek, a member of the society, will exhibit several examples of his stained glass windows and will discuss and demonstrate his "paintings in glass" during the Thursday and Friday sessions of the Spring Arts festival. Oils, watercolors and sculpture by Vilimek will also be on exhibit. True stained glass is art glass upon which an image has been painted with finely ground glass and then fired in a kiln. The image or portion of an image is then an integral part of the glass. Leaded glass refers to pieces of art glass which are held together with strips of lead called "came" which then form windows, etc. Cut pieces of art glass are also joined using soldered copper foil. Glass is made up of three basic elements, silica; pota$h or soda and lime. Art glass is created by adding metals qr metal oxides. The first true stained glass windows were made about 1,000 years ago and attained perfection in the 12th and 13th centuries. The art seemed to die and was dragged through the last several centuries by a few caring artists who spent much of their time repairing the older work. In the 19th century, the reawakening of a sense of history helped revitalize stained glass. The public is invited to see Vilimek's stained glass windows and discuss their creation with him as well as learn about this ancient art form. Set Up Scholarship Fund At Valley Hi The family of Terrie Braun, an employee of Valley Hi killed in an auto accident on the way to work, has established a scholar ship fund in her memory, Bill Morefield, ad ministrator of Valley Hi, has announced. The committee is establishing guidelines, but Terrie's family has asked that the scholarship be earmarked to help any Valley Hi employee further his or her education in the field of medicine. Morefield said the public is invited to make con tributions to this fund so the size of the endowment will become sufficient to allow the scholarship fund to b e c o m e p e r p e t u a l . Donations may be sent to Morefield at the Valley Hi Nursing Home, 2406 Har- tland Road, Woodstock, and earmarked for the Theresa Braun scholarship fund. Youth Group Program Available In County The Youth Life group of Crystal Lake recently traveled to St. Walter's parish, Roselle, to present the slide program, "Struggles and Successes," a program relating the growth and development of the Youth Life group from its inception to its current activities. Also presented was "Give Life a Chance," a presentation regarding the respect for life issue - the realities of abortion, the rights of the handicapped* and retarded, and the reverence for the aged. The Youth Life group is available to present its programs to interested organizations and parishes.
