Dinner had been served, but the seniors stayed on to enjoy the piano music of Charlie Jacobsen and chat with friends who came to the First Anniversary party of the Wonder Lake Meet and Eat program, sponsored by the McHenry County Senior Citizens' Council. At the celebration held at the Nativity Lutheran church, the site hosted 115 persons. Introductions were made by Mrs. Tom (Peg) Thorne from Wonder Lake, who serves as secretary of the McHenry County Senior Citizens' Council. Bill Biscomb, president of the Nutrition Projects' Advisory Council, welcomed guests. , Rev. Roy Olson, Pastor of Nativity Lutheran Church, where the program is held, led the invocation. Mrs. Paul (Lydia) Germaine made the festive decorations and Marjorie Clark served as volunteer coordinator for the meal service. Site Manager, Beth Haubold, and senior volunteers serve the meal every day (Monday through Friday) at 11:45. Before and after the meal, from 10:30 to 1:30, people come to enjoy the company of other seniors, play cards and are involved in craft projects. The program is sponsored by the McHenry County Senior Citizens' Council and welcomes all seniors. A steering committee of Wonder Lake is also in­ strumental in making the program successful. Meal reservations may be made by calling 653-7731 between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. the day before, or, the Meet and Eat Program office at 455- 6990 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. the preceding day. The nutrition program is just one of the programs provided by the McHenry County Senior Citizens' Council for persons 60 years or older. For information about the Meet and Eat program, please call their office for information about services for seniors, call the council office, 800-892-6120 or 338-6075. Choral Club Entertains Following the recent business meeting of the McHenry JSenior Citizens club at West campus, the McHenry Choral club presented a most enjoyable program and received a standing ovation from the 106 members present. Selections by the chorus were two favorites of the twenties, "Sleepy Time Gal" and "I'm Looking Over A Four-Leaf Clover", with the seniors joining in for a sing- a-long. Others were "Mood Indigo" and "Song of the Vagabond". P a u l president, L e u b s c h e r , called the meeting to order, and Rose L i n g l , m e m b e r s h i p chairlady, reported 399 paid members. All club dues are due and may be paid at the April 14 meeting, or mailed to Mrs. Lingl's home. A stamped, self-addressed envelope is necessary to have a membership card mailed; otherwise, it may be picked up at the meetings. The annual bowling banquet will be held May 14, 6 p.m. at the McHenry Moose lodge. Tickets are available from Elbert Schuberth, bowling chair­ man. Summer League bowling 16 will begin Friday, May and Tuesday, May 20. John Doerr, tour chair­ man, reminded members and guests that the bus will leave the McHenry State bank parking lot at 4:30 p.m. April 10 for the Fireside theater and restaurant in Fort Atkinson for dinner and the play, "The King & I". Mr. Doerr also urged those wishing to go to the Cubs- Pirates baseball game August 5 to get their tickets early from Ruth Fradell. Another trip planned is a tour of a bakery in the Deerfield area and a lun­ cheon, April 28. Show Chinese Cookery Club Slates Dinner-Dance Parents Without Partners Chapter No. 189 in Crystal Lake will have it's monthly smorgasbord-dinner dance Friday, April 11, at the American Legion Hall, Oak at Woodstock streets, Crystal Lake. Dinner wilf begin at 8:30 p.m. with dancing from 9:30 until 1 a.m. Members of other chap­ ters are cordially invited to be a part of this enjoyable evening. To be eligible for mem­ bership in P.W.P. one must be a parent and be single by reason of death, divorce, separation, or never married. Custody of the children is not necessary. For more information, please call 459-1863. Mrs. James E. Young, McHenry, will present a program for the Town and Country Newcomers club Tuesday, April 8, at St. Paul's Episcopal church. A former consultant for a major food corporation and a food service professional, Mrs. Young will be conducting the program, the "Mystique of Chinese Cookery". This presentation will reveal the creative techniques behind Oriental cuisine and will show methods which may be utilized in a minimum of time. POTATOES AU GRATIN 1 Vt pounds potatoes -- boiled and sliced 3 tablespoons butter or mar­ garine 2 tablespoons flour 1 Vi cups milk '/« cup grated cheese Vt teaspoon salt V* cup fine dry crumbs Boil the potatoes in their jack­ ets. Let cool and then slice them. Start oven and set at 350° F. Grease a 1 Vt quart baking dish with butter or margarine. Make a cheese souce by melting 2 ta­ blespoons butter or margarine, blend in the flour, odd milk slow­ ly, stir and simmer over low heat for 3 minutes. Add the salt and cheese. Simmer until the cheese has melted. Ploce the potatoes in the baking dish and pour the cheese souce over them. Mix the remaining butter with the crumbs and sprinkle on top. Bake IS or 20 minutes. Serves 6. I always look forward to a Leap Year. It gives me one more day before April 15th.
