Through these two drives and the annual drive held in Johnsburg, owell* over 500 tons of material, primarily newspapers, are saved from the landfill each year. This is stil} a small percentage of the amount of material that could be recycled if more people would take the time to do it. Statistics show that it takes about 15 minutes a week for a householder to prepare materials for recycling. The results en vironmentally are well worth the effort. An experimental curbside pick-up service is being provided through the end of July for bundled newspapers, cardboard and magazines in a few select communities in and near McHenry. An effort is being madd to see if enough people are getting involved to make a curb-side service practical on a permanent basis in the future. If anyone has questions- regarding recycling, call the McHeniy County Defenders' recycling representative in McHenry at 385-8512.
