Exum Minis toe While here, Charlie got to go camping with grandma and grandpa Low, who took 6 of their 10 grandchildren camping with them for a few days. 'Twas quite an ex perience as there were two pretty good rain and wind storms while they were out. One night they ended up in the camper with the grand parents, but the second night that they had a storm, the kids weathered it out in the tent. Of course, grandma didn't get any sleep, wat ching to see that all were OK. They came home a day early from camping because of all the wet weather. Monday found Alice Mae Wilcox and Doris Low headed for Freeport to again exchange children. This time Linda and Bill both met them,, returning Donna Erwin and picking up Charlie, who had never been away from mom and dad before, for more than a night or two. Of course, Nicky didn't want to be outdone by brother Charlie, staying at aunt Sue's and grandma and grandpa Low's, so he returned with them for a week's visit. Donna also returned home at this time so that she can get registered for school, etc. BELATED BIRTHDAYS Happy belated birthday to Frank Cerny on Aug. 12 and to Weldon Andreas and Charles Sowers Aug. 13. Recurring pain in joints and muscles, however, requires the diagnosis of your physician because it may indicate some form of arthritis or rheumatism. Arthritis refers to chronic joint disease. The term "rheumatism" is assigned to disease involving the muscles, tendons, ligaments or bursae. You cannot self-diagnose recurring aches or pain because pain which appears to be in a muscle may be FOWLERS CARPET 344-5400 3 DAY SPECIAL THURS., FRI., SAT. Assuming you've seen your physician and have been told you have arthritis, you were probably told you have osteoarthritis because it is the most common form caused by deterioration ~ of joints due to age or abuse. Rheumatoid arthritis also occurs, however, and is the more crippling form of arthritis. Although the cause is not known, current theories lean toward in fection or autoimmunity (antibodies in the body fighting against itself). More women than men contract rheumatoid arthritis. The third most common arthritis form is gout, reputed to attack rich-living kings. It is actually caused by minor injury, excessive eating or drinking, over exercise or surgery. Gdtit tends to be a man's diseaip. It is the easiest form pf arthritis to treat. Since chronic aches or pains are likely to be any o#e of many forms of arthritis or rheumat i sm, carefu l assessment by a physician is essential. The Arthritis Foundation emphasizes correct assessment of ar thritis or rheumatism may be difficult. If treatment for your particular form of the disease does not improve the condition, your physician may suggest the con sultation of a specialist arthritis and rheumatic diseases. Coping with arthritis wiU, undoubted ly , inc lude keeping your weight down. Excessive weight puts un necessary strain on load- bearing joints. Gradual weight reduction is recommended. Exercise is usually en couraged. However, let your physician decide the form and extent. While certain exercises may be correct for one form of arthritis, they could be gpas t rdus for another. Rest is impdbtent for the arthritic patitnf as well as 8 lifestyle which., discourages stress. For further information regarding arthritis, write to: The Arthritis Foundation, Illinois Chapter, 79 W.
