V PAGE 1« - PLA1NDEALER - FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, ItM Sanders Wishing For .500 Season With 24 girls out for Johnsburg High School's tennis team, cooch Connie Sanders is taking a close look at all of them before committing herself to any starters. She does know, however, that Kathy Szumlas, a junior letterman, will be her number one singles player and that senior Kim Grenman, also a letteman, will be one of the two girls who comprise the number one doubles team. After a hard 3-8 mark last year, Coach Sanders is looking forward to this year. Sportsketch O r i g i n a l l y f r o m Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Connie Sanders moved to this area seven years ago after graduating from N o r t h e r n I l l i n o i s University with a degree in Special Education. She reasoned that most of her kids that she had two years ago did not play organized tennis before coming to high school, and with a few years of experience under their belts, they should feel more at ease in competition. She is hoping for a " break even" season this year and said that two freshmen may help her attain that goal. "Kathy Hartjas and Jennifer Jones should be real tough this year and solidify my program fbr years to come," she said. Other girl joining in the competition this year in clude seniors Cindy Mann, Mary Kollenkirk, Janice Schmitt. Juniors are Teri Jakubicek, Barb Schmitt, Deb Jayko, Ann Moehling, Tracy Esposito, Darcy Relle, Angie Kinny and Kathy O'Brien. Cindy Guetzloff and Stacy Naleway are sophomores, while the freshmen are Kelly Hart, Trisha Herigodt, Kathy Butler, Janet Ready and Gail Jacubicek. Similarly to McHenry, the Skyhawks will hold their tennis matches at the Johnsburg Junior High Until the new tennis courts behind Johnsburg High school are resurfaced. In Vict orif or Defeat...
