In a match that was settled on the final hole, Bill Fuiava captured the 54-hole Club Championship at Chapel Hill last weekend. Teeing off on 17 in the final round, Fuiava was deadlocked with Terry Donovan and Bill Hayes. Fuiava and Donovan parred the 585-yard hole with fives, while Hayes dropped out of contention as he finished in a third-place tie with Lloyd Freund at 247. Moving on to the par three, hole 18, Fuiava drove his ball pin high and to the right of the greea He pitched on and two- putted for a bogie, while Donovan pitched over the green on his second shot and settled for a five on the hole, thus surrendering to the big Hawaian. Fuiava finished the three-day affair with a 79-81-82 for a 54- hole total of 242 and his first Chapel Hill club title after a third- place finish last year. In the women's championship, Mae Fuiava, the wife of the men's champion, won easily with a six stroke cushion. He three-day rounds of 88-90-94 was enough to win comfortably over runner-up Nanci McAuliffe, a previous club champ. Class B for the men saw Stan Freund take the honors with Tom McAuliffe and Phil Wieck tied for the second spot. In Class C, Bud Houda captured the title with Don Lowery runner up. Earnie LaBay was the Class D champ, while Wayne Gaylord took second place. In the ladies Class B, Sandy Donovan captured the win with Judy Schmitt winnin the runner up. Glenda Wieck took Class C honors, with Wanda Gehrke taking second. Class D found Jane Lowery on top over Suzanne Beam.
