Family Picnic Central Baptist Family Services is hosting the third annual Foster Family picnic Sunday, Sept. 14, on the grounds of Central Baptist Children's home in Lake Villa on Route 83, from 12:30 until 4 p.m. Central Baptist Family Services is a hon-sectarian, not-for-profit child welfare agency that provides foster care services for the maioritv of Illinois state wards residing in Lake and McHenry counties. Foster parents are special people and the picnic is one way the agency can recognize them for the caring and concern they offer to hundreds of neglected and abandoned children. There is a critical shortage of foster parents ahd homes are urgently needed for children living in McHenry county who are unable to reside with their own families for temporary time periods. The department of Children and Family Ser­ vices 1979 child abuse and neglect record states there were 24,807 reports of abuse and neglect. This award, formally titled the Bishop O'Neill Catechetical award, is given annually to outstanding teachers of religion in Catholic schools and CCD programs in the Diocese of Rockford. Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Schneider, who between them have contributed 38 years of teaching at Montini, are being recognized this year of their exemplary teaching and witness at Montini. They will receive their awards at a special Mass and ceremony at St. Peter's Cathedral in Rockford Sept 21 at the hands of Bishop Arthur O'Neill. Lakeside crater, Crystal Lake, will be the setting for a very special pre-season concert by Maria Lagios, well-known soprano who has appeared in the Chicago area with the Chicago Symphony orchestra, Chicago Opera theatre, Chicago Baroque ensemble, and the Apollo Music club. An entrancing "singer- actress", Ms. Lagios' petite charm and sparkling dark eyes are as captivating as her clear and full-bodied coloratura voice. The program, which has been arranged by Marie Ann Vos and other members of the Community Concerts board of directors, will begin at 6:30 p.m. A champagne reception for workers will precede the concert, Memberships will be available from Sept. 14-27, and during the week of Sept. 20, will be for sale at cam­ paign headquarters at 1 E. Students Will Learn Of Free Enterprise Volunteers and Junior Achievement of Chicago staff will recruit high school students in five McHenry county schools this month. Following a short presen­ tation students will have an opportunity to apply for membership in a J A com­ pany where they will join other teenagers in learning about free enterprise by organizing and running their own mini-business. They will sell stock, elect officers and make and sell a product in this practical economics educat ion program. Volunteers from area business firms counsel each teenage company.
