Plans for the February dance will be discussed along with the decision of whether or not to give a key for the Com­ munity House to the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. A report from the com­ mittee hiring a lawyer to represent the association will be given, and the president will give an update on the gypsy moth. These meetings are open to the public, so do plan to attend. SCOUT NEWS Now that school has begun the Girl Scouts and Brownies from Lakeland Park are back. Girl Scout troop 320 meets on Tuesdays, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Community House. The girls' leaders this year are Joan Kowalec, Diane Jarosinski and Gloria Milbratz. Brownie troop 464 meets every Tuesday, right after school, at Valley View. Trish Eiserman has returned again as a leader and we welcome Chris Szarek this year as co-leader. The girls' first meeting was last week and they enjoyed making "me puppets" from brown lunch bags. Happy scouting to all the girls in both troops. The main reason they always went south was because their daughter and her family lived there. Ellyn and Bill Iddings, with their children Todd, Mary Lynne and Jim, have recently moved back north. They now live in Fox River Valley Gardens and the Dobbins are so pleased to have them so close. Counselor To Address Fall Health Seminar Robert Meyer, a counselor for McHenry County college, will address more than 90 medical and social workers Oct. 8 at a Fall seminar for health professionals spon­ sored by the Chicago Heart association. Meyer, who is completing work for his doctorate in counseling psychology, will address the Chicago seminar on how heart attacks and heart surgery affect the lives of adults. The research project with heart attack patients in three age grbups was done as part of his Ph. D. work at Nor­ thwestern university. Meyer explains that his research reveals that heart attacks cause the most turmoil for adults between the ages of 40 and 55. Older adults accept their heart attacks fairly easily, Meyer said, once they are assured that they will not become total invalids. Young adults, of course, go through a severe crisis when they experience a heart attack, but it is less likely to cause a major change in their plans for the rest of their lives than it is in the case of adults in the middle years, Meyer said his research shows. Meyer added that for most adults, heart surgery is a positive experience while a heart attack is a negative experience. Meyer 's research also goes into how the families of patients with heart disease are affected by their illness. He will share the podium at the conference with four other speakers. The seminar, which deals with heart attacks, is titled "Change of Heart: Crisis and Adjustment". Meyer, who joined the staff at MCC in 1976, works at the college's outreach office in Woodstock as the coordinator of the rehabilitation program at the McHenry county jail. The program is funded by McHenry county CETA, the McHenry county 706 board and the Illinois Department of Correction. AFDC DURING PREGNANCY Gov. James R. Thompson approved legislation to in­ clude childless pregnant women in the state's Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) program. "A pregnant woman's needs for housing, food and clothing are just as im­ portant to her health and well-being before delivery as they are after the child is born," Thompson said.
