Marian had everything working against them in the I.C. game as the conference foe came into the game with a 13-5 record, a first place S- 2 conference mark, and riding /< winning streak. an eight-game winnir _ The Hurricanes took a 30- 22 lead at halftime against I.C., who had beat Marian earlier in the year, 56-48. "We played the best two quarters of man-to-man defense that I can remember," Coach Hans Rokus said. The tide started to turn as I.Ci led 45-40 midway through the third. Maqan cracked away at the lead and trailed with seven seconds remaining, 51-50. Carl Brown was fouled on a shot and put in two free throws to give Marian a 52-51 lead. Kim Smith and MHame Smith Shark Dwindling In a meeting of Big Nine Conference principals last Monday, Shark Conference school, Honongegah out of Rockton was accepted as the newest entry and will join the Rockford-based con­ ference in 1982-83. If the Shark cannot collect any new members, the 1982 season would feature only Johnsburg, Marengo, Harvard and Marian Central in the Shark. Marian will start play in the Shark next fall. Other schools already leaving the conference next year include North Boone, South Beloit and Beloit Catholic. They will all join the new Trail Blazers Conference next fall. Up to now, Hononegah has been the only Class AA school in the Shark and will join nine other Class AA schools after next season The Rockton school is ex pected to have full con­ ference schedules in 1982-83 in all sports except football.
