PAGE 7 - PLAINDEALER * FRIDAY, APRIL 24.1981 EARL WALSH So I Hear Old Faithful "Biff' Meyer mailed two 1981 White Sox schedules to us. Also sent a headline clipping "Nothing Goes Right For The Cubs". (That broke me up.) That isn'tNdl. Scott thought that one over and said, "I don't want to go to heaven. The rest of you can go. I'll just stay with Nanny and Papa (Grandma and Grandpa). Modesty would prevent Eddie Buss from telling us, but 'twould seem somebody would have reported that he bowled an all-time high series of 755 pins at McHenry Recreation a short time ago. The Milwaukee Brewers haven't squared away with a good start, but that's my team except when they play the White Sox. Must ask Peter Wilt about the Brewers since he has been doing some sports reporting up that way." Somebody told me Dick Rabbi tt is going to Ireland this coming summer. Jeff Stern Jaycees Seek Runners If the McHenry Jaycees are to reach their goal of 150 ! runners for this year s Camp New Hope benefit race, the entries had better start coming soon. Race coordinator Jerry Sullivan says entries for the May 3 run are somewhat scarce thus far. "We have competition this year," Sullivan noted. There are races in Crystal Lake and Elgin the same day. But we still feel we can have 150 competitors." Proceeds from the race will benefit Camp New Hope, a summer outing for physically and mentally retarded individuals. The local Jaycees hope to send a donation of at least $500 this year. Registration will be accepted through the day of the race. All persons signing up prior to race day will receive a T-shirt commemorating the event. Signup forms are available by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Fun Run, in care of the McHenry Jaycees, Box 163, McHenry, 111. The ZIP is 60050. "No thanks," Osterman replied. "Twice in one day would be too much. " Osterman's despair was caused by a 14-13 loss to Crown in a slugfest featuring 16 hits and 15 errors by the two squads. McHenry banged out 11 of those hits, but wound up on the short end of the mo6t important statistic "We outhit them but gave the game away on errors and "Four of their walks," the coach lamented, "h our of their runs were walked home." The loss took away the glitter from another outstanding plate performance from McHenry's Sue Dixon She had four hits in as many tries, including a triple, two doubles and three runs batted in. Karen Karpavicius also carried a hot bat She hit a homer, a double and a single, driving in three runs Donna Chesler contributed a triple and a single and Vicky Nowak had a triple and walked twice McHenry took an early 4-0 lead early, but Crown tied the score in the third. The Warriors grabbed an 8-4 advantage in the fourth before Crown rallied for six tallies in the home half of the frame Crown returned some of the favors in the seventh with the Warriors trailing 14-10. Two walks and three infield errors helped McHenry score three runs, but the rally fell short. The loss dropped McHenry's record to 3-3 in the Fox Valley Conference and 5-4 overall Akins Paces McHenry Cary Wins Net Meet Cary-Grove posted a perfect score and won the singles and doubles crowns, b o o s t i n g t h e m t o t h e championship of the seventh annual McHenry freshman- sophomore tennis tour nament Saturday.
