TREE PLANTING Arbor day has been celebrated the past week by many communities and people. A day set Aside for tree planting was begun in 1872, and has continued to this time, with emphasis on conservation. Over 12,000 trees have been planted this spring in Moraine Hills State Park, to our west and south. Wilfred Blake, with the Conservation department, has been in­ strumental in the planting of 3,000 white pines, cedars, oaks and other hardwoods, flowering trees and shrubs. This is really providing future genegations with the beauty of many kinds of trees, plus the life giving properties of our wooded plants. Have you planted a tree this spring? LAKEMOOR'S FUTURE An important open meeting will be held Monday May 18, for study and questions on the proposed Comprehensive Plan for the Village of Lakemoor. Chairman George Garbacz of the Planning Commission, urges every one in Lakemoor and surrounding areas to be present, as this plan will affect all of us in some way. Much thought and time has been put into this study in an effort to improve the future of our whole community. FLORIDA NEWS Former Lakemoor resident Elaine Gray, called from Holiday, Fla., with news of Eunice Tobey, formerly of Lilymoor. Eunice suffered a stroke April 16, and would ap­ preciate some words of comfort from her friends here. Send your get well wishes to Mrs. R. Newton, 805 High­ way 19 south, Tarpon Springs, Fla. 33589. Eunice is well remembered here for her musical talent and caring heart. . Elaine knows many for­ mer area residents who are now neighbors in Florida. She is one of the sponsors of the McHenry picnic held every April and November in Howard Park for McHenry people. She is finding more "snow birds" living in close proximity every year. She sends greetings to friends here, including Pat and Norm Morrison and LaVerne Schueler. And of course to her daughter Kathy Woods who lives in the old homestead in Lakemoor. FAMILY WEEK For the second year^ McHenry County is recognizing the family by proclamation of "Family Celebration Week" May 3 to 11. With so much being printed and declared about the decline of the family in the United States, perhaps it is proper to publicly recognize this most im­ portant of relationships. What will your family be doing as a celebration during this week of togetherness? Let us all share in the special events, get togethers and fun times that are being planned for your family. Boy Scout Troop 145 from Wonder Lake plans to use the funds earned from their work at this month's drives to help send boys to summer camp. This Saturday, as all first Saturdays, is the day when the pay-back aluminum program is in effect. Those bringing in their recyclable material are able to receive cash-in-hand for their all- aluminum cans. Those preferring to continue donating cans and other aluminum products to the groups working on the drive may do so. As a reminder to those who have not been involved in recycling before, citizens may bring their bundled newspapers, bundled corrugatedcardboard, clean glass bottles and Jars, clean flattened steel cans, used motor oil, and all-aluminum products to the southeast corner of the Market Place parking lot on either the first or third Saturdays of every month from 9 until 1.
