The evening will also consist of two other dance pieces, "Raymonda" (Divertissements from Act II and Act III) and "Le Corsaire Divertissement," both of which will feature ABT cast members < The evening features new stagings of three classic works choreographed by the legendary Russian Marius Petipa "Raymonda" and "The Sleeping Beauty" have been restaged by Mikhail Baryshnikov, currently in his first season as American Ballet Theatre's Artistic Director. The third ballet, "Le Corsaire Divertissement," has been staged by ABT Ballet Mistress Diana Joffe, and consists of the "|ardin anime" scene from the full-length classic. x Mikhail Baryshnikov and Natalia Makarova both came to the West having been leading dancers with Russia's celebrated Kirov Ballet Since leaving the Kirov. Baryshnikov has appeared as a principal dancer with both the American Ballet Theatre and the New York City Ballet. He has also made guest appearances with companies all over the world including The Royal Ballet, the Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Danish Ballet, and the Paul Taylor and Eliot Feld Companies. Natalia Makarova left Russia in 1970 and soon became a Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theatre. She made her ABT debut in "Giselle" and since then she has danced leading roles in many ballets including "The Nutcracker,' "Swan Lake" and "La Sylphide."
