Recycling Will Help Bond opens Preserve Cary Prairie Summer Series This Saturday, June 6. and also the third Saturday. June 20. are the scheduled days for this month's recycling of newspaper, cardboard, glass containers, steel cans, all- aluminum products and used motor oil. The hours are from 9 until 1 * and the location is the southeast corner of the McHenry Market Place. Because of the excellent response to .the pay-back program for aluminum, that service will be in effect at both the first and third Saturday drives beginning this month and continuing through the summer months In March. 2,000 pounds were brought in for pay back. in April. 2.700 pounds and in May. 3.000 pounds. Many of the new people bringing in cans for pay back are bringing along with them their bundles of newspaper, clean glass jars and flattened steel cans. This means that more natural resources are being conserved and less space is being used in the landfill. The group that will be working along with the McHenry County Defenders this Saturday is the Cary P r a i r i e M a n a g e m e n t committee. The Cary Prairie is a 3-acre plot of land located adiacent to Cary Junior high school. It abounds with the wind- flowers and plants typical of the original Illinois prairie landscape Three guided tours of the prairie will be made this summer under the guidance of the McHenry C o u n t y C o n s e r v a t i o n district. Anyone interested in finding out the date and time may check with some of •he Prairie people working at the drive or may call the McHenry County Con servation district for details. I Anyone having questions regarding the preparation of materials for recycling may call the McHenry County Defenders representative at 385-8512. -V: • | •Bel-ray oil *Michelin & Goodyear Tires •Fairings •Windshields •Kerker Exhausts The summer series of band concerts by th£ McHenry stage band will start Thursday, June 4, at 8 p.m. in Pearl street park Under the direction of Bill Toalson the band lists the popular "String of Pearls' and "Body and Soul" among its first offerings Other selections will be "Alive Again", "Dream sviile", "Peter Gunn", "The Way You Ixx>k", "Brass on Ivory". Technically, vintage means the gathering of grapes each year, and the pressing of those grapes to make wine. Therefore, a vintage wine is one from a particular year. However, some producers in Champagne and Porto, date the selected wines of a particularly good harvest, so that those wines are given distinction as being superior to ones not bearing a vintage date. Many California pro ducers prefer to specify a vintage date only for especially good wines. What does it mean if a German wine is labeled Beerenauslese? Beerenauslese, German for "berry selection" denotes a special Auslese made from individually selected, fully ripened grapes ef fected by the "noble mold" (Edelfaule), and picked berry by berry. Beerenauslese wine is rich and high in residual sugar. Rare, and rather expensive, they are among the world's greatest wines. Is it true that the longer a whiskey is aged in wood, the better it is? No. Some whiskies reach their peak of perfection or "maturity" during the aging process more quickly than others. In general, fuller-bodied whiskies are likely to benefit from longer aging. However, once a whiskey reaches peak maturity, it may tend to deteriorate if left in wood.
