Lakeland Park & Lakeland Shores Carol Cominsky 385-7246 Family Dlggin's In McHonry County Two Beaches Are Closed Dredging has been started at the west beach so it will be closed all summer. The east beach is temporarily closed until further notice It's not the safety of the water that has caused this closing but all the glass that has been found in the grass, sand and water We hope to find volunteers to go over there and clean the whole area. It really is a shame that people had to litter when there are large garbage cans right by the parking lot. Another pity is the fact that the same people who always volunteer their time will be the ones over there working. I made my first trip to sit on the beach two days before I received the call telling me it was closed. It's so nice having such a lovely area so close to home If you would like to help in getting the beach reopened soon please give me a call and let me know what you can do PLANS ARK MADE Mark Saturday. Wis , in the summer of 1832 It was in honor of him that this new county was named Two years later, in the fall of 1834. Samuel Gillilan and his family settled on the west bank of the Fox river at a point which has been fixed by the McHenry County Historical society as Section 27. atop the Algonquin hill beside what is now Highway 31 They might have been considered poachers, because the land at that time was still ceded to the Indians who had the right, by an act of Congress, to occupy the McHenry-Lake county region until 1836. In 1835, there were enough settlers in the county to start a movement to give the territory official sanction, and on January 16, 1836, the state legislature approved an act to establish certain counties, including McHenry county, which was to contain all the land now included in both McHenry and Lake counties Lake became a separate county in 1839. On June 1. 1837. an election day was legislated, and the first official records of the new county began. These old records of marriages, divorces, births, deaths, probated wills, land transfers, civil court cases, military service and deeds still exist today in the county seat at Woodstock.
