CRYSTAL LAKE ROAD * SUITE C-WHISPERING POINT McHENRY, ILLINOIS 60050 by Rep. Lynn Martin In America, and only in America, we have so much to love, so many ways to laugh, so many opportunities to voice our views, and so much to live for that so many have died for. In America, and only in America, a descendent of immigrants can be elected to Congress by the sons and daughters of others who come to a new land for a new life. In America, and only in America, my nearest neigh bors are a black family, a Chinese family, a family who can trace their lineage back to the Mayflower and we're all equal under the law. in America, and only in America, we can elect our leaders, defeat our leaders, castigate our leaders, and dislike our leaders all without fear. In America, and only in Aitierica,' can my twelve year-old daughter deliberate on whether to be a gymnast, an inventor, or President of the United States, and I can reassure her that they are all in the realm of possibilities. In America, and only in America, we can visit the mountains of Colorado, the gulf waters of Florida, or the hills of upstate New York, all without borders or passport checks or limitations on travel. In America, and only in America, we can write to our newspaper and tell them we think they're wrong and they can write and tell me why I'm in error and no govern ment will interfere. In America, and only in America,- we can choose a political party, any political party, and work for its growth, and still sit down to dinner with its opponents. In America, and only in America, we can worship as we choose, in church or synagogue or open field, With the right to talk to God as we wish. In America, and only in America, I can glance from the monument of our first President, honored nut as a king but as a duly elected leader, to the monument of our sixteenth President who wept to see a Civil War but kept America together. In America, and only in America, I can walk in Arlington cemetry and see the generations of those who died to keep our America alive. So thank you, America and Happy Birthday.
