V "0,» MEDIA MONITOR Peter Barton By STEVE K. WALZ-TELEVISION WRITER New video stars on the horizon New York--If and when the fall season gets out of the starting gates, the glittering array of new programs are sure to spawn new male and female stars. Based on what I've seen to date, the following shows will catapult their leading cast members into overnight sensa tions. CBS Private Benjamin--Lorna Patter son, albeit a mediocre imitation of Goldie Hawn is still a likeable per sonality and should streak to new heights in this series. Lorna was also offered the "Love, Sidney" show on NBC. In the pilot, she was absolutely marvelous. Close-Up: Jessica Novak-- Helen Shaver's role is a cross between Jessica Savitch and Barbara Walters. She's good, very good.^-. The Vintage Years--Thoughrthe show is already undergoing major casting revisions, Jane Wyman will remain as the matriarch of a Califor nia winery, and a mean one at that. With "Dallas" as a lead-in, the former Mrs. Ronald Reagan will once again bask in the limelight. NBC Joel Higgins (standing), Carlene Watkins and Meeno Peluce. Love, Sidney--Tony Randall has been absent from the weekly grind far too long. In this new network series, he's just terrific. Star Prince-- Remember Peter Barton in "Shirley"? If you don't, you'll just eat him up in this terrific new sci-fi series. Rock Hudson Show-- Rock and co-star Jack Scalia seem headed for stardom even though the show is slated in a tough timeslot. It remains to be seen who gets more ink. ABC Stike Force--Robert Stack makes a triumphant return to prime-time in a series that caters to his acting strengths. The Fall Guy--Also perfectly groomed for the talents of Lee Ma jors, who desperately needs a hit show. Don't fret Lee, you're in the right vehicle. Best of the Wesf--One of the most off-beat series to hit the air waves in a while. Joel Higgins and Carlene Watkins spoof the old West and South in this well-written pro gram. TV COMPULOG SERVICES.
