An old fashion, all-day outdoor service is planned for Sundav. Sept. 20. at the Alliance church, 3815 W. Bull Valley road, McHenry. This service is reminiscent of the times when people traveled by horse, wagon or carriage many miles to church and would bring their supper with them. After the worship service they would gather for food, fellowship, and recreation throughout the day. This is the fourth year the Alliance church has celebrated the kick-off of their fall program with such an all-day service. A pig roast, recreation for all ages including a Softball game, a volleyball game and horse shoes, along with special music and just plain good fellowship are on the agenda for this year's all-day service. There will even be those who traveled from miles, as many of the college people will be home to share in the day's activities and provide some of the special music. "Homeward Bout local Bound", a contemporary Gospel will be on hand to provide the evening's special music. Tired of Being "Nice" Q. I seem to nold a grudge against my mother for many past minor grievances. Even now at 29 years of age I cannot get along well with her. She treats me as a chili alienates my husband, and does not like my two little children. I was a compliant child and tried to win her favor. While my sisters went thruugh an adolescent rebellion I always tried to be "rice". . I'm tired of doing what my mother wants, but I don't know why I'm afraid of her. I feel guilty for not loving her more, and I long for some unknown or unreachable relationship with her which is hidden to me. Please advise me! A. You will have a better relationship with your mother if you stop being docile and take charge. Stop being afraid of her. Be courageous and firm in a natural, pleasant way. Act your age. At 29 you are a mature person, and if you no longer act like mama's girl a relationship built on mutual respect may develop in time. Red-Hot Temper Q. We have been married ova* 35 years, and there has always been this problem with my husband-temper flare-ups. And when he flares up it's like a volcano erupting lava all around the palce. After one of these episodes I feel like I wish I'd never seen him. much less married him. He is so domineering it's disgusting. At times he still tries to dominate our married children. Do I have to put up with this or is there some way to make the load lighter? I just want to tell you to keep up your good work. We need words like yours to keep qs going in this day and age. A. No, you don't have to put tip with such lack of emotional control from a husband who acts like a juvenile. It is time for both you and your children to quietly look him in the eye and tell him you are not afraid of his childish tantrums, that you will henceforth ignore his flare-ups and won't take any more of them. If you do this and mean it, those tirades won t work any more and your husband may learn to act more grown up. & there is something you would like to ask Dr. and Mrs. Peale, write to them at Box 500, Pawling, N.Y. 12564. BUDDY'S WORKSHOP I am planning to paint the wooden exterior of my home--the upper portion--which means that I am certain to let some paint drip from my brush onto the lower portion, which is un- painted brick. I'd like to be prepared to remove the drippings as they occur. How do I go about it? Paint spots on unpainted brick are difficult to remove, even when fresh. One trick employed by professional painters is that of rubbing over the splatters with another piece of brick. The brick dust created by friction usually picks up the paint or camouflages that which remains. A broken piece of concrete works equally well when paint is splattered on cement or stucco.
