PAGL , •'LAINDKALEK WEDNESDAY. NOVEMBER 4,1*81 W VJI So I Hear It was a real fun night as we joined John and Letty Busscher at McHenry Country Gub Friday night to wine and dine -- and talk There is no fun like meeting friends when you go out for an evening The first one we saw was Marilyn Reihansperger and she set us up for whatever was to come Henry (a Cub fan' and Mary (White Sox fan> Mutschmskv sat at an ad joining table I nearly choked when John asked Marv about her baseball allegiance and she an nounced "Cubs". Well, we got that straightened around and found Mary is still on the right track -- loyal to the Sox cbe is also loyal to Harry Caray Frank and Mary will be going to Sarasota again this year. Where else? That's the home of the White Sox. Larry and Lynn Lund were down from Monroe, Wis . joining Chuck and Lois Peterson, and Dr. Jim and Helen McMahon to form a happy group Can't begin to name 'em all. but twas a fun crowd The Yankees deserved to lose the World Series to the Dodgers. Ownership -- outclassed Manager -- out- managed Players -- outplayed Christmas trees and or naments were being shown before Halloween arrived And -- the lady of the house showed me ads for spring fashions Another short winter The biggest wheels of different countries met to decide on action to help underprivileged countries. Results: They decided the United States should do the giving What else is new0 When we see reports of the fabulous wealth centered on a fev. in countries where starvation exists, it just simply gets my goat. Do they need gold bath tubs0 _ We read a very clever column in the Milwaukee Journal, written by Tim Hallev. about Pete Wilt. Pete is a senior in jour nalism at Marquette U., but seems to have a flair for many things beside writing He has a collection of Woolworth store items, a red Edsel and pictures of Deanna Durbin (she was a bit before his time). Tim Halley put it *1! together in amusing style. The Boosters got a good - boost Sunday morning when a large crowd turned out at East Campus for their pancake and sausage break fast. The correct name of the pancake makers is "Warrior Booster Gub". The name is well chosen. Men and women in the group join in making up one of the most active and , helpful clubs in our com munity. The first person at the door was Earl Cooper. He took the money. As a trained trainer, "Coop" rates high with athletes and coaches. Next came Maitre d' D'Angelo. When he asked where we wanted to sit, we should have said "Booth One" Our head waiter did a good job of welcoming everybody He's a real Booster. Had a short visit with Coach Ken Ludwig at the B o o s t e r b r e a k f a s t a n d learned he is starting basketball practice this week. The Warriors still lack that tall man so will have to use other skills. Haven't talked with Dick Rabbitt about prospects for the season, but imagine we will see a slow start that will see the team round into form. Have always said you can't sell a Ludwig team short. We were pleased to receive a nice note from former MCHS coach. Cliff Fulton. He really enjoyed the Get-together arranged by Paul Morenz. Cliff and his wife, Marti, still think of McHenry as their home town. Like taking the boy off the farm, you can take the likes o' the Fultons out of McHenry, but -- If you think it means anything, John Coughlin says Robert "Beef" Freund celebrated his birthday on All Saints Day. Not a sudden thought -- something we plan to ask girls about Aren't those long beards on the boys a bit ticklish? • • • • Save time and friends-don't try to tell a parent what's wrong with junior. * • • * Theory is all right for b o o k s b u t i t t a k e s practical expression of ideals to make life better. No one was injured in the blaze that began in an upstairs bedroom but their children lost all their clothes and bedroom furniture. There is an urgent need for clothes since the kids were left with only the clothes they were wearing. Two boys wear a size 10, one wears 12 and the older boy wears a 26x29 pants and 16 shirt. The girl wears a woman's size 12. If you have anything to donate, please bring it to my home at 4709 Prairie and I will see that it is delivered to the Schooleys. MEETING The next meeting of the Lakeland Park Property Owners association will be Thursday, Nov. 5. It takes place in the community house, beginning at 8 p.m. PROMOTION Clare and Eleanor Hearle are so proud of their son Bob Matthews they can't button their shirts these days. Bob was elected president of Railway Progress Institute in Washington D C. on Oct. 29. He's been with the company 12 years, the past eight as vice-president. Any old timers who knew Bob when, know he worked very hard to achieve this and will be very happy for him. PARTY Lee and Lucille Dolan's son Lee Allen turned five years old Oct. 28 and a party was held that afternoon to celebrate the occasion. Christy and Robbie Leonard, Lisa. Jimmy and Danny K l o c k n e r a n d J a m i Cominsky were his neigh borhood friends on hand for the games and treats. When Jami arrived home she told me I could report in my cohiumn it was "lots of fun." ANOTHER PARTY Our brother-in-law John Koscher had another bir thday Oct. 19, but he preferred not to be reminded of it. We couldn't let it just slide by, so on Sunday, Oct. 25, Joel and I took Lisa and Jami to their house for cake and ice cream. Sue and Jeff Jordan were also there with Ben, so the whole family was on hand to sing "Happy Birthday". CHIVALRY When Jackie Miller stopped by our house last week, she never thought it would be a costly visit As she was pulling out the driveway to leave, we thought her tire blew out, but it ended up being more serious. After parking the car right in the middle of our front lawn, these two helpless ladies could only stand there wondering what to do next. I never realized how many thoughtful men lived in the area until they started stopping to survey the damage and to see if they could help. Who said chivalry was dead? BIRTHDAYS COMING Very good wishes are sent to Ceil Serritella on her special day, Nov. 4. Harold Boelter Sr., will be another year older Nov. 6. The 7th is Joan Schwegal and Virginia Hodges' birthday. Steven Crago will be one year old Nov. 9. and he shares his day with Julia Beck. ANNIVERSARIES John and Lorraine Arient c e l e b r a t e a n o t h e r a n niversary Nov. 4. Donna and Ray Rode will be together 32 years on Nov. 5. Best wishes are sent to both fine couples. "Twain By* The Tale" Offering At Marian "Twain by the Tale", the fall production of the Marian Central high school Drama department, is scheduled for t w o p e r f o r m a n c e s , Saturday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. The two-act revue is a sparkling collection of stories, sketches and monologues displaying the wit and humor of Marie Twain, recognized as one of Midwestern America's greatest authors. Adapted by Dennis Snee, the play centers on Twain, portrayed by Colin McCormack, from youth to old age. Members of the supporting cast include Mike Z e g a r s k i , T o n y Piwowarczyk, Kelly Hilgers, Fran A more, Ann Potje, and Brian Adams. Interlude music, composed by Gregg Saeger, is performed by Andy Belmonte. Interest in Mark Twain's wisdom and humor has escalated since the one-man production of "Mark Twain Tonight" enacted by Hal Holbrook on Broadway and later on television. Since t h e n , f i r s t - p e r s o n characterizations have become popular stage vehicles, well received on campuses and in local theatres throughout the country. "Twain by the Tale" is entertaining family fare, suitable for all ages. Tickets for both performances may be purchased at the door. For further information, call the school at 338-4220.
