Nov. 6,1961) No. 810558 Pony Express "Run" At Church Sunday A second "run1' of the Pony Express will get under way this Sunday at the McHenry United Methodist church, with a "trail boss" breakfast and worship service. An estimated 35 church members acting as trail bosses and station agents are expected for the breakfast briefing. The Rev. Thomas Lowery, pastor, said church families on the Pony Express "run" will again relay stewardship saddlebags to gather "estimate of giving" cards. Saddlebags and run route lists will be handed out at the breakfast by Ed Wittrock, general manager of the stewardship campaign. The relay of saddlebags among church members will begin immediately after the morning worship service. Each saddlebag bears the names of 10 church families. Each family fills in a giving estimate card, seals it in an envelope and inserts it in the saddlebag pouch and then hand-carries the saddlebag to another of the families on the route. The teamwork ia similiar to that of the Pony Exprees riders of a centufy ago, knowing they can count on the next rider to relay the mail to its next destination. "We're excited because of the enthusiastic reception the Pony Express received at our church last year," Wittrock said. "It's good healtty competition as each trail boss attempts to complete a run before the other trail bosses."
