March 21 Nature Program Will Have Three Sponsors but, Have you ever tracked through the deep woodland under the talented guidance of an old Indian-and caught the majesty of life in nature? It is described as exciting as hearing fine music or viewing fine art. It is reverential and enchanting involvement, also. As a boy, Tom Brown, Jr., author of "The Tracker" and "The Search", was privileged to have a close friend whose grandfather, Stalking Wolf, taught them the skills of tracking and the . Indian ways. The public can share the experiences of Tom Brown Sunday, Ittarch 21, when he will present, in person, a three-hour program of slides and Polish In Agriculture lv 1» i'j vviimL [.'.lKftvi-II A" « - I _ -fI9l. |(JU <!Yf* Need Farm FamHies For Training Program demonstrations on tracking and nature observation, and a discussion of native American lifestyles and philosophies. Since seating is limited to 700 persons, advance ticket purchase is advised. Call the Defenders' office at (815) 459-0450 for information. Tom Brown, Jr. is presently conducting week long workshops in New Jersey and Seattle, and mini-weekend courses around the country, to teach others that oneness with all of nature is essential to survival. Sponsors of the March 21 program are the McHenry County Defenders, the Environmental Education committee for the McHenry County Conservation district, and the McHenry County Audubon society. •OOOOOOOOOOOCM Safety Hints 300 BOOOOQOQOfl By Secretary of State Jim Edgar Many pedestrians think they have the right-of-way whenever they cross a street. However, there are Rules of the Road for pedestrians, too. Here are some examples:. 1. Pedestrians must obey traffic signals and walk lights, and must use the right half of the crosswalk when practical. When the steady yellow signal appears, pedestrians are,, not allowed to cross the street, unless directed by a pedestrian- control signal or a police officer. 2. Pedestrians who cross at any place oilier. than a marked or unmarked crosswalk at an intersection must yield the right-of-way to all vehicles on the road way. 3. Pedestrians are not allowed to walk on a high way if there is a sidewalk next to it. If there is no sidewalk, they should walk on a shoulder as far as possible from the edge of the roadway. If there is- no sidewalk or shoulder, they should walk on the highway as close as possible to the edge. If it is a two-way roadway, they should walk only on the left side and step off when a vehicle draws near. 4. Pedestrians are prohibited from standing on any part of the roadway to ask for a ride from the driver of a vehicle. If you have any questions about the Secretary of State's office, please feel free to use our toll-free telephone number (800-252- 8980) . (A copy of the Rules of the Road will be sent to you upon request. Write to Jim Edgar, Secretary of State, Springfield, 111. 62756.) « PAGE 13 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY. Some of these "benefits" are listed inPsalm 103:1-5. It is my firm conviction that, everything else being equal, the contented believer in Christ will live longer, feel better, and enjoy life far more, in every wholesome way, than his neighbor who doesn't fear the Lord, nor trust His dear Son. Home life is far more congenial for the Redeemed of the Lord, that is, if they allow the love of God to rule in their hearts and lives. Thank the Lord for all His "fringe benefits".
