PAGE 4-PLAT :K - FRIDAY. APRIL 2.1MB "EARL WALSH" So I Hear Spring has come. Virginia Kreutzer hung her wash out on the line Monday morning. Before clothes dryers, women hung the wash out in all kinds of weather. In freezing weather, kids laughed at the long un derwear swinging in the breeze, stiff as a board. If you ever helped your mother take down the wash, you will remember it was a real job to pry those clothes loose when frozen to the line. Don't know how I got started on that subject, but will switch to outer gar ments. The press reports tell us fall clothing is designed and ready My-- how fast the summer slips away! April showers bring May flowers -- plus grass to cut and weeds to pull. When good friends die, there is always an urge to write about them. We did that for a long time, then decided it would be best to mention people while they are alive. Mark L. Justen Fourth Genera'i Funeral Dire, toi Robert A Justen Third Generation Funeral Dtrector As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, we direct our advertising promotion towards helping you We hope to inform and become an even bigger part of the McHenry community We have many programs planned, including an ad series offering pamphlet mailings to those requesting help answering questions on Funerals to helping Children in Death. We alternately plan a series on grief, touching on decisions made in the griet process and giving suggestions on how tocope We will also be running a series of public service messages dealing with information affecting us all These ads were written by Donald W Steele, grief psychologist for The Center for Grief Counsel ing and Education, lnc and are very helpful In our series on grief entitled; "Did you know . . we plan a small space where we can mention any community sponsored function or activity being presented by a civic or non profit organization in the McHenry area. Space is limited and we require a 21 working day advance on the event to allow us enough time to include it. This information can be sent to the George R Justen & Son Funeral Home and we will try to include it in the next available format. We plan to honor our deceased war veterans in the month of May Around Memorial Day, families of war veterans may pick up an American flag to place on their graves Many fun activities are planned in connection with our celebration, too from a 3C beer and braut night to an appearance from Junior Cobb and the Arkansas Wood Car ver s Guild Bob is growing a beard for the centennial celebra tion' So. it you don't recognize him now, you will when the warm weather arrives. We hope to make this an unforgetable JOOyear celebration for our family as well as yours. We^hope that you will torn in our celebration. O ( »rt/ 3 3519 West Elm'Street, McHenry, Illinois 60050 (815) 385 2400 This time, we make an exception Harvey Nye was a friend and one we had a lot of fun with during the years. When we had an office in the Dr. Nye building, Harvey was the maintenance man. With Harry Dean across the parking lot, we had some fun. Hairy would tell Harvey something I said about him. I'd deny it and tell what Harry said. Harvey gave us both our blessings with words he didn't find in his prayer book. There was one lady who really pulled Harvey's cork. He described her as an overbearing so-and-so. I found out the date of Harvey's birthday and sent him endearing cards with the lady's name signed. He never gave me the satisfaction of saying he received those cards. Harvey Nye spread cheer. He will be missed. However, many of his friends will smile whenever they recall his stories. Basketball's March Madness is over. Now comes Golf Madness. Ron Waytula thinks Saturday will be opening day. Say your prayers, Ron. The weatherman isn't too sure. SAYINGS: If the cap fits, put it on. Confucious SAY: Know thyself and know thy enemies. Sure, I know, but what have you done for me lately? If fairness and loyalty are in your makeup, you are doubly blessed. Don't be like that. People won't like you. Smile and the world smiles with you. (Smart ones used to add this oldy: Snore and you sleep alone.) Rust wastes more that use. A fine cage won't feed the bird. Some eat to live. Others live to eat. Distance lends en chantment -- but not when you are out of gas. Champions In McHenry Show THE CAVALIERS OF ROSEMONT Scouts Use Recycling Proceeds For Camping Appearing at the Midwest Color Guard circuit championships will be the Cavaliers of Rosemont. Wearing blue pants, orange shirts, and green silk jackets, the Cavaliers portray the "Jets" in "West Side Story". They march to "The Jet Song", "America", and "Officer Krumpke". The 1981 Midwest champions are favored to win again this year. Utilizing large drill patterns, the Cavaliers have their equipment in constant motion. Doing the unthinkable with their double rifles, their somersault tosses, and their dance steps, the Cavaliers are definitely a guard to see. The public can see them at West campus, McHenry, April 3 and 4. The Saturday event begins at 9 a.m. and the Sunday show at 19 Boy Scout Troop 131, of McHenry, will be on hand Saturday, April 3, at the recycling drive to help the McHenry County Defenders handle the items brought by the public. The drive will be held in the Market Place parking lot on West Route 120 from 9 a m to 1 p.m. The Boy Scouts, according to Scout Master Stewart Hoak, will use their share of the proceeds to finance summer camp for ap proximately 14 boys (ages 11-17) at Camp Lowden this summer. Two adults will also accompany the boys on this outdoor experience. Items which can be brought to the drive include newspapers securely tied (no magazines, cardboard or junk mail) ; glass containers rinsed and all metal and plastic removed; steel ("tin") cans washed and flattened; used motor oil in plastic or metal containers; and aluminum scrap of all kinds. There is also an immediate pay-back for clean all-aluminum cans brought to the drive. Organizations which would like to co-sponsor a future drive or persons having questions about preparing materials for recycling should contact the McHenry County Defenders representative at 385-8512.
