STARTING APRIL 26 CAROL HARTMAN 344-3764 CALL: Mrs. Joe Yerkes, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kent, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Zeffrey and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hodges. Bill Rose was not feeling well, so he and his wife did not at tend. Phil checked back in his records, and determined that Harry Strnad started with the fire department in Lakemoor in 1948, before Lakemoor even had a fire truck. Money was raised by donations to purchase the first truck. John Sulok joined about 1949 and John Foute and Chuck Abel about eight years later. John Sulok is the current assistant chief of our 3, reporting to Peterson. This past season has been a par ticularly active one for our volunteer firemen, going out on six burning house calls and other emergencies. With the advent of Spring, grass fires always pose a threat and will keep our fire department busy. Applauding their V. husband's achievments were Mrs. Sulok, Mrs. Abel and Mrs. Foute. A time of reminiscing, sharing and becoming closer friends was had by all our firemen and their spouses, along with the appreciation of a grateful community. BATTERY BLOWUP Don Hipwell of Lakemoor went down to his basement Friday, March 6, to recharge his car battery. Fortunately, Don had his glasses on so the acid did not damage his eyes. Louise immediately doused Don's face with water to avoid acid burns. Don was able to get up stairs, but shock took its toll and he lost consciousness. Louise called the McHenry Rescue Squad for assistance. They responded immediately and took Don to the EE at McHenry hospital. The gash on his head was treated and after a thorough examination he was allowed to return home. Louise had to awaken him every two hours in the event of a concussion. Don is feeling better but the headache is still there. And the memory of the terror of explosion will be with them for a long time. f 0 Marion and brother Donald were joined by aunt Adeline, Debbie's godmother, aunt Evelyn, and godfather Fritz DeZutter and his wife. Among Debbie's gifts were five long stem roses from her godfather. But the most precious gift of all was the one she received from her Holy Father. CONFIRMATION AT ST. HEALING WISHES Young Robert Gurske is again hospitalized at McHenry hospital, as physicians try to determine the cause of his throat problem. Ever since Robeit's tonsilectomy, pain and dizziness have increased with dp apparent reason. A biopsy done on Friday, April 2, willl hopefully lead to a cure. We join parents Mitzi and Skip and brother Anthony in prayers for healing for Robert. CONFIRMATION AT ST. PATRICK'S Debbie Vornkihl of Lilymoor was one of a class of 57 who were confirmed at St. Patrick's church at a Mass celebrated by the Most Reverend Arthur J. O'Neil on Sunday, March 28. There were many hours of preparation, plus a full day of recollection, where these young people strengthened their commitment to Christ. The Sacrament of Con firmation is the time they receive the Holy Spirit, a deep step of faith. Debbie was officially given the name of Deborah Jean Mary.
