PAGE 4 - "EARL WALSH" So I Hear This is the time of year when a person gets sick and tired of winter clothes. It is also time for another thought. The things we were going to do right after the C h r i s t m a s - N e w Y e a r holidays, we plan to get at right after Easter We are having a great time going through a State Basketball Tournament program which was thoughtfully brought to us by a good friend It covers many years of play Waiting, just waiting, in a shopping center gave me a couple of thoughts First, benches without back rests should be outlawed Next, watching all those little carts being wheeled past by young mothers makes us think babies aren't going out of style Confucius and Jack Slaughter say: Man who has face like hub cap known as big wheel. Guess Leo Heimer and I could be talking from then to now We had a great visit and went way back in our memory of McHenry, people and events. On Thursday I started a new diet. Then came Saturday night and an in vitation to join a great group of friends in the David-Vi Benrud home And a lovely, comfortable home it is. Vi is a girl who knows how to stir up tasty dishes and I am the guy who tastes everything. An evening to remember-- -and goodbye diet. Will have to get a new start. Weather hasn't been too good, but take my word for it. Easter Sunday morning will come forth with sun shine to warm our hearts and all the rest of us FUNERAL COSTS. WHAT EXACTLY AM I PAYING FOR? Some people think they are spending money on a casket only Of course, some of the money is for the casket you buy for the deceased, but that is not all . There have been times when the weather part of tradition got all mixed up. Not this time. When we were kids, fasting from candy, we looked forward to Easter Saturday when the fast ended at noon. That's when we cut loose with an assault on the calories. With our "Brenda" (Adele Froehlich) at the controls, the annual spring program, staged by the McHenry Choral Club, presented another fine entertainment for music lovers the past weekend Many people join together to practice and put the pieces together before the stage is set for the rest of us to just "set" and enjoy. The program had enough comic numbers and old time songs to give variety. Again we note -- our McHenry area has a lot of talent in the ranks. Must have inherited my father's taste for homemade doughnuts. My sister-in-law. Ethel Blake, catches the hint now and then and comes through. I still contend that major league baseball should be played in the south and west during the month of April. Never in Montreal after September Players train in warm climates for weeks, then come home and freeze their britches (or would you say breeches") Wayne Gaylord and I are waiting for a little talk with Sports Editor Carl. He picks the White Sox for fourth place How could he"! On this signficant day of Easter -- May the sun shine on your bonnet, the bunny color the eggs to suit your taste And God Bless You. Symbol Of Lent Linda Moore, left, and Ginny Kapelanski, center, members of St. John's Catholic church, Johnsburg, are shown arranging stalks of wheat, symbol of the fifth week of a lenten experience titled "From Ashes to Easter". This parish renewal program was presented by the Religious Education department of SL John's under the direction of Sister Therese Frey, director, shown at right. This rewarding lenten experience flowed from the Sunday liturgy and continued for five weeks. Each week's theme was kept in focus with a banner created by parishioners. The banner pictured above depicts wheat as the symbol for Community Building. Groups also met in individual homes to discuss the week's theme and its relation to their daily lives. St. John's is now preparing for a mission as an Eastertime follow- up to be presented from May 15-23. The mission will be presented by the Vincentian priests under the direction of Father Don Berkbigler.
