"I need to look for a nursing home for my father. He is 71 and It is difficult for us to opke care of him. We are not loeded with money, so cost Is s factor. How do we get the names and locations of nursing homes In our city?" - Seth J. A. Seth can contact the Lehigh County Aree Agency , on Aging, Court House annex and Hamilton street. Q. "I am in a nursing home. I had a TV set, s small one that my daughter gave me. It was stolen from my room last week. The nursing home manager has done nothing about it. She said it should have been bolted to the wall to prevent theft--that it really isn't their responsibility. "I think that is very unfair. They are supposed to take care of me here and that should include prevention of theft of my possessions. Is there anything I can do? It is terrible to be deprived of my TV, my only interest in life now that most of my relatives don't call on me anymore." - Clarice H. ' A. The nursing home is indeed responsible. Many business firms try to avoid responsibility for loss or theft, but as any lawyer will explain to Clarice, any place where an occupant pays rent and is charged for care and room and board, is responsible for preventing theft and replacing stolen items That does not, of course, spply to money, jewelry and other items that should be placed in a safety deposit box in the nursing home. Clarice can contact her own lawyet. If she does not have a lawyer she can call or write to the local legal aid office. But first, she will do best to explain firmly to the nursing home manager that she and the nursing home owners cannot eacape responsibility snd that she, Clarice, intends to pursue the matter until and unless her TV is returned or a new set is provided to replace the stolen one. Q. "We don't get any service at gasoline service stations anymore because I patronize the self-serve Km pa So nobody takes care of the ttery on my car and I don't know how. What can you adviae?" - Cecil J. A. Cecil can keep his battery free of corrosion (the light-colored powder on the terminals) by making a peaty mixture of baking soda and water and applying it to the corroded areaa of the battery. He will wait a Hw minutes then wash it off with water from the garden hose. He should pkjpe s layer of newspapers on the driveway underneath his car so that the watered down chemical will not cauae discoloring when it waahea off onto the driveway. If you have a question on the problems of aging, write to Carl Riblet Jr. at P.O. Box 40757, Tucson, Ariz., 85717. He will try to answer the question in this column. No identities are revealed. Partially filled boxes of dried fruits (raisins, prunes, apricots) keep their freshness longer if stored in the freezer.
