Then, on through Tupelo, Miss., and Alabama to visit son-in-law Ben's family. Four days were spent in Florida, with a lot of time in the sun, resulting in great tans for both. Driving north through the Carolines was s disappointment. Carl is not an expressway driver and opts for leas traveled roads. Many of the areea were very poor and unkempt. Two beautiful southern mansions were seen, a reminder of the magnificence of past years. Virginia and West Virginia are states Carl and Jackie would like to see more of. The beeuty of the Ap­ palachian mountains and the surrounding countryside were ap­ preciated. Several days after Jackie and Carl's return home, a tragic call was received, notifying Jackie of her mother's severe illness that resulted in her death.
