Among the con sultants to employee worksite campaign chairmen are a number of local company management people. Together with a large number of executives and professional people, they are volunteering their time to the United Way because they realize the value of donating just once a year to one fund drive. In this way donors do not have to be ap proached regularly by organizations needing support. Ron Russell of Crystal Lake, general campaign manager for the drive, says the amount sought is $180,000, some 20 percent higher than in other years. However, the needs for the various human services sup ported by United Way are greater during this period of poor economic conditions. He says that to raise the amount of funding needed is a great challenge, but the able and outstanding team assembled is a positive step toward the goal. All involved un derstand the need to help people who may be their neighbors, and are willing to contribute their time, effort, and leadership skills to the nnmpaign Dioie ^nurcnes IOKB fart In Baptismal Rite Sunday On Sunday, Oct. 24, the people of the Wonder Lake Bible church will be meeting with the people of the Woodstock Bible church at the 6 p.m. Bible Fellowship hour in Woodstock to participate in a baptismal service. SAFETY HINTS by Secretary of State Jim Edgar Keeping safety in. mind is never more important than when approaching a railroad grade crossing. Illinois law requires all vehicles to stop within 50 feet, but not less than 15 feet, from the nearest rail when: 1) There is a posted stop sign; 2) The electric signed is flashing; 3) The crossing gate is lowered; 4) A flagman is giving a signal;'5) A train is approaching dose enough to create an immediate hazard) or 6) A train gives a warning signal and is an immediate hazard due to its speed or nearness to the crossing. Do not proceed until all tracks have been cleared. Your safety can be assured by observing t h e f o l l o w i n g suggestions: 1 - Expect a train on any trade at any time. Do not cross the tracks until you are sure no train is coming. 2 - Never get trapped on a crossing. When following other cars, be sure there is room for your car on the other side of the tracks before mtering the crossing. 3 - Never shift gears on the crossing, as your vehicle could stall on the tracks. 4 -- Never drive through, around or under gates. 5 -- Watch for a possible second train. Never cross behind a train until you are sure there is only one track. 6 - Never race a train. 7 - Watch for vehicles that must stop at crossings.
