OCTOBER 2S. 1»82 Volleyball Regionals of our potential, but we did manage to win the match," said Sharal Koenigseder, the Skyhawk coach. "It is very difficult to play a slow-paced game when we ace accustomed to faster game play. Tomorrow will definitley be a much faster-paced and exciting game for the girls and spectators. Marian Advances RICHMON-BURfON - The Marian Hurricanes defeated Richmond- Burton 15-10 twice to advance in regional {day. The Hurricanes faced Johnsburg for the regional title Thursday. Beth Penza led the Hurricane squad with seven points and one kill. Both Holly Ryan and Sarah Traver had seven points. In the first round, the Hurricanes defeated Willows Academy of Niles Tuesday. Marian won 15-3 and 15-10. Beth Penza was the leading scorer with 13 points and three aces. Marian Coach, Linda Hoppman said the match against Johnsburg for the championship should be close. Warrior Season Ends The McHenry Warrior volleyball season ended Wednesday night, losing to Harlem Loves Park 15-5 and 15-10 at the Rocketen Hononegah regional. "The score really didn't tell how well we played," said Pam Schaffer, the Warrior coach. "The other team was really powerful. We were on defense all the time." SCOTT MCCLORY RICHMON-BURTON --The Johnsburg girls' volleyball team traveled to Richmond-Burton High School on Wednesday to begin Regionals. They were seeded number erne. The first scheduled match was against the Wildcats of Woodland Academy. The Sky hawks won in two games and are-now 12-6 overall. Johnsburg will play Marian Central for the Regional Championship. In the first game of the match, with the score at 2-1 Woodland Academy, Julie Anderson shot three serves over the net, giving Johnsburg a 4-2 lead. Diane Heard received credit for three serves of her own, which raised the score to 7-2. ' After a series of serve exchanges and points to each team, Missy Christie served with the score being 13-7 Johnsburg. Her next two serves were good and Johnsburg won the first game by a score of 15-7. Theresa Hauck led the squad in spikes with three and she had two kills; followed by Heard with two spikes and one kill. Christie had eight passes for her team. In game two, Johnsburg still was in control of their game. With Johnsburg down 4-2, Christie again was con sistent on the serving line. She recorded an additional two serves for the squad, raising the score up to 4-4. From this point forward, Johnsburg kept the lead. With the score at 8-5, ALL-CONFERENCE -- Johnsburg Skyhawk volleyball team members. Theresa Hauck (left) and Diane Heard (right) were named to the Northwest Suburban all-conference team. Terri Blume has set records in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle. Her time in the 50 yard freestyle was 26.9 and in the 100 yard freestyle 1:00.6. Blume is a senior. Sophomore Monique Betancourt has broken her record four times this season in the 200 yard Individual medlay. Ho* latest time is 2:36.9. Freshmen Laura Clewis broke Hedi Dass record in the 500 yard free-style with a time of 6:09.2; bettering the old record by 31 seconds. Coach Shanahan has his top 10 over the years and this season some additions are being made. Sophomore Peg Chilvers is eighth on the^200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:29.6 and is eighth on the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 6:48. Junior Danielle Johnson is fifth on the 200 individual medlay with a time of 2:51 and advanced to fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:18. Junior Paula HiDer is ninth on the list in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:31.9. Trying to pick winners in football games is as bad as Don Wattles at Arlington Park. Steve Carby again led the pack through the chute in fine time of 16:08 for the 3.1 mile run for a course record. Chris Creutz, Brian Wright, Marty Koleno and freshmen Terry Harth were other Warrior sewers. Creutz came back and won the Frosh-Soph It may have not been the greatest game ever played by a McHenry High football team, but the game last Friday night against Dundee will be up there among the best. For those of you who missed it, what can I say, but for you who were present it will be a long time before you will forget it It was a spectator's delight, both teams racing up and down the field, and four touchdowns sewed aftef nine minutes of {day. The first half resembled a tennis match, and the defensive display by the Warriors in the second half completely shut down the high powered Cardura! offense. I can't recall a McHenry team gaining a total of over 500 yards in a game, with 428 yards coming on the ground. That is a lot of real estate in one game. The running duo of Rudman and Milinac gained over 300 yards between them. On defense, Clewis and Rehberg were standouts, although the coaching staff and entire squad should be taking bows this week. Tonight the Warriors take on the high flying Gatmaf^rystaLXakf Scutfr. The Gators are stale faiun& arifffead tie Fox Valley. Hutchinson expects the girls to qualify for the sectionals also. He feels Antioch should be the top team at the meet. He also expects Delia Saunders to finish in the top five. He hasn't seen much information on many of the teams in the field and doesn't know how the rest of the squad stacks up. The Conant course is flat, according to Hutchinson, which isn't a Warrior type course. Hutchinson says his squad likes a more hilly course. The boys course will be tnree miles and the girls course runs two miles. To qualify for sectionals, the boys squad must finish in the top four and the top five individuals also advanced. The girls' must place in the top five and the top five individuals qualify. After an easy victory at the Fox Valley Conference cross country meet, the McHenry Warriors are ready for the next hurdle on the road to the Illinois High School Association State meet. The Warriors travel to James B. Conant High School in Hoffman Estates for regionals Saturday. A total of 10 other schools will be in attendance. Barrington, Wauconda, Antioch, Grant, Streamwood, Hoff man Estates, Conant, Cary-Grove. Lake Zurich and Round Lake. But the boys will be without their number one runner, Steve Carby. He has been witheld for disciplinary reasons. Even without Carby, Warrior Coach, Bill Hutchinson, feels his team should be the favorite. "Yeah it will hurt," said Hutchinson on not having Carby. "It's like losing a 6-8 basketball player or the number one quarterback in football, but we are still hoping to qualify.
