JR. Walter S. Shumway, Jr., 52, of Pensacola, Fla. died Friday, Oct. 29, in his home. He was born Aug. 9, 1931, in Chicago, the son of Walter and Marie (Vogt) Shumway, Sr. Mr. Shumway was a retired master chief of the U.S. Navy, after serving 30 years. On May 7, 1957, in Mem phis, Tenn., he married the former Sara Hen- dersen who survives. Also surviving are his f a t h e r W a l t e r , Elmhurst; mother and step-father, Charles and Marie Brichpa, Wonder Lake; and one sister, Mrs. Armal (Lois) Osteen, Wonder Lake. He was preceded in death by a brother Raymond in October of 1967. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at Jones funeral home, GreenviUe, Ala., with the Rev. Charles Black- man officiating. Military graveside services followed at Antioch East cemetery, Greenville. HENRY PETERSEN Henry F. Petersen, 62, of McHenry, died Sunday, Oct. 31, at H i n e s V e t e r a n s hospital, Maywood, 111. He was born May 21, 1920, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Roscoe) Petersen. Surviving are his wife Rita (Flinker); two daughters, Mrs. Dianne Ward of Murphysboro, 111. and Mrs. Betty Grace of Austin, Tex. ; two grandsons, Brian and Aaron Ward; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Pascaly of Chicago. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the George R. Jus ten & Son funeral home, with the Rev. Ralph Smith of Marengo Methodist church officiating and interment will be private. Visitation was scheduled from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American. Cancer Society. EVA LUSK Eva M. Lusk, 85, of McHenry, died Friday, Oct. 29, at Royal Terrace. She was born Nov. 10, 1896, in Chicago; was a four- year resident of the McHenry area; lived in LaGrange, 111. for one and a half years and Fox River Grove 25 years. Survivors are two grandsons, Patrick (Dorothy) Dillon of McHenry and Michael (Barbara) Dillon of Seattle, Wash.; four great-grandchildren and one sister. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Edward in 1962 and Joseph Lusk in April of 1979. A Funeral Blessing was offered at 4 p.m. Saturday in the George R. Jus ten & Son funeral home, with Father Schott of the Church of St. Mary of the Assumption officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation was held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service Saturday. VIOLA GLOSSON Viola F. Glosson, 68, of McHenry, died Friday, Oct. 29, at St Mary ' s hosp i t a l , Rochester, Minn. She was born June 2,1914 in Chicago, the daughter of William and Rose (May) Staines. A lifetime resident of the McHenry area, Mrs. Glosson was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church. She is survived by her husband Joseph Glosson, whom she married April 27, 1938, at St. Patrick's. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Her- Man Killed By Car After Fall • i m A 19-year-old Arlington Height^ man was killed in a car-pedestrian collision that occurred, this p*sC;. weekend on Lakeview road, near* Route 173, Richmond. Edward J. Lombardi, of Arlington Heights, was pronounced dead at the * scene of the accident. According to McHenry County sheriffs police, Lombardi reportedly jumped from the back of a southbound pickup truck and fell to the ground. A northbound auto stopped adjacent to Lombardi and several people got out. At this time, another southbound auto crested a hill. The driver of the car, Kevin M. Fitzgerald, 23, of Twin Lakes, Wis., attempted to avoid the collision with the pedestrians and the northbound vehicle, but was unable to avoid striking Lombardi. Lombardi was one of four Arlington Heights youths riding in the cargo area of the pickup truck. The driver of the vehicle was Mark A. Bayerle, 20, of Arlington Heights. No other injurl were reported. Richard A. DeRosa^of 95 Mineola, Fox Lake, was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions jmd driving under the influence following a one-car accident at the intersection of Bar nard Mill road and Route 31. A passenger in the DeRosa auto, Martin J. Fredericks, of 804 Oriole, McHenry, was taken to McHenry hospital by the Johnsburg Rescue squad. DeRosa refused medical treatment. According to the county police report, the DeRosa auto rounded the curve, left the roadway and struck a tree. The collision occurred at 1:25 a.m. Oct. 29. John G. Bleile, of 1811 May, McHenry, was driving west on Ringwood road, near Fox Lake road, when an eastbound auto encroached* in his lane of traffic. Bleile turned left to avoid a collision and ran into two trees. Two passengers in the vehicle, John M. Sande, of 3017 W. Scott, and Brian T. Elia, of 2915 W. Scott, both McHenry, escaped injury in the ac cident. The accident occurred at 2:20 a.m. Oct. 30. Harry R. Wilkinson, of 7714 Oak- wood drive, Wonder 'Lake, was driving east on Catalpa, approaching E. Wonder Lake road, when a west bound vehicle crossed the center line and forced him off the road. The Wilkinson vehicle left the pavement and rolled. No injuries were reported. The accident occurred at 3:15 a.m. Oct. 30. Fifteen minutes earlier, John E. Johansson, of 5103 E. Lake Shore drive, Wonder Lake, was heading north on E. Broderick said he used the ac celerator to clear the engine, when it became stuck. The vehicle drove off the pavement and into a yard. The accident occurred at 3:10 a.m. Oct. 31. George Alvary, of 602 N. Green street, McHenry, was just coming out of a curve on Roberts road, near Porten road, when he lost control of the vehicle. Wonder Lake road when her car left the pavement and struck a small group of trees. Ms. Williams could not recall how the accident occurred. Timothy J. Casey, of 422 Cresthill, McHenry, was cited by McHenry police for improper lane usage following a two-car collision on Elm street. Casey was attempting to change lanes when his vehicle struck an auto oriven by Carl W. Almgren, of Wauconda. Almgren was cited for operating a vehicle in violation of restriction. The accident occurred at 9:12 a.m. Octe 29. Charles W. Kopp, of 7120 N.-Oak, Wonder Lake, was attempting a left turn from Route 120 onto Meadow lane when his car struck a vehicle in the outside lane. Kopp told McHenry police he did not see the other auto because of a van that had stopped in the center lane. The driver of the other car was Buddy E. Ramsey, of 1817 Lakewood, McHenry. Kopp was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way. The education committee of the Mental Health Resource League for McHenry County is presenting an informational program on Turning Point, Inc. Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the meeting room of the Presby te r i an church , Tryon and Calhoun streets in Woodstock. According to Sharon O'Dwyer, educational chairperson of the league, this seminar will explore the several facets of the Turning Point philosphy, focusing not only on family violence, but also on alternate responses to violence in stressful family situations. Because it is a private agency, Tur ning Point can provide non- judgmental and non-threatening support to all family members. Some of the many services provided by this non-profit organization in clude: a 24-hour family stressline, a parents' anonymous group, a women's support group, and referrals to temporary shelters. Turning Point, Inc. is one of several mental health-related agencies which is partially funded by the Mental Health Resource League for McHenry County, a 200-member county-wide group.
