Missy Christie was next on the serving line for the Skyhawks and she pounded out three for her team, giving Johnsburg a 13-8 advantage. GaU Wroblewski and Lori Nichols each earned credit for a serve and John sburg won the first game by a 15-9 score. Thresa Hauck led the Skyhawks with four spikes and six sets. Rotundo Helps St. Edwards Wreck Up Hurricanes; 20-13 JACK MCCARTHY ELGIN -- Runningback Louis Rotundo was a one-man wrecking machine for Elgin-St. Edwards Saturday, rushing for 97 yards and scoring a touchdown and kicking two extra points as the Greenwave beat Marian Central 20-13. Hie loss dropped the Hurricanes to 4-4 overall with one game remaining -- a Saturday match at Wheaton-St. Francis. St. Edwards evened its season mark at 44. The Hurricanes spotted the Greenwave 13 points in the first quarter before they could finally get on the scoreboard. Rotundo scored the first six-pointer on a 10-yard run for 6-0 lead at,the 5:06 mark, but this extra point try was blocked. After an unsuccessful Marian drive, St. Edwards took over again and drove deep inside Hurricane territory. The 'Canes got a temporary reprieve, though, as the defense descended on Greenwave quarterback Brad Beck, forcing a fourth down and 12 situation at the Hurricane 21-yard line with just 50 seconds left in the opening period. But Beck regained his composure and tossed a 21-vard scoring strike on the next play to nalfback Mike Gotter. Rotundo added the extra point for a ISO Greenwave lead. Down,, but not out, the Hurricanes quickly bounced back in the second .l». Wi period. At the 9:33 mark, Marian quarterback chuck Hartlieb threw a 41 vard pass to Jeff Cyncher at the St. Eawards 20 to set up a golden scoring opportunity. , But on first down the 'CaneS were called for holding, pushing the line of scrimage bade to the Wave 35-yard- line. On first and 25, a pass to John Micelli failed and a second down pass to Darren Fortin was caught but bobbled at the 25. On third down, Hartlieb finally found Cyncher open at the St. Edwards six-yard-line and completed the throw for a first-and- goal. Two plays and one penalty later, Hartlieb tossed an 11-yard strike to Micelli for a touchdown at the 7:42 mark. Micelli added the extra point to narrow the margin t 13-7. On their subsequent possession, the Greenwave fumbled at their own 20 and the Hurricanes recovered. It took just five plays for Marian to hit paydirt. Hartlieb tossed a five yard pass to Andy Hartlieb for the team's second touchdown and Micelli added the extra point kick to knot the score at 13-13 with 4:55 remaining in the half. St. Edwards scored the winning touchdown in the third quarter on a 10- yard pass from Beck to split end Dave Madden. Rotundo's extra point closed the scoring, giving the Greenwave a 20-13 advantage.
